March 16, 2026 Lilac is adopted by her Foster parents! We have foster failures among us & I couldn’t be happier!!!

Laura & Jim have been fostering our adorable little LILAC, the kitten I pulled from Duplin County pound.  It was a fluke and a long story about how I got involved with this rescue, but I’m so glad I did! Read this story dated Dec. 14, 2025 below!

Laura is recovering from her 2nd hip replacement surgery & she is doing well.  We miss her at FURR, but we know she will be back when she is able.

Meanwhile, Laura & Jim have fallen in love with Lilac and Lilac loves the dogs and all the other cats!

These pictures are priceless, and the one with 4 kitties (ALL adopted from FURR!!!) are sitting with Laura in her bedroom, is just heart warming!

Laura & Jim now have FOUR adopted FURR cats (photo above), 1 other cat & 2 rescued dogs!

I’m so happy for Lilac!  Thank you Laura & Jim for deciding to keep her & give her a loving home! CONGRATS LAURA & JIM! LOVE these pictures!

Dec. 14, 2025 Yesterday I received several phone calls & emails about a kitten at animal control.  Many Rescue groups had been called & all were full.  I do not normally pull from animal control because I have such a waiting list of cats needing rescue right here in Hampstead.  

It looked like this kitten was doomed, so I agreed to take it & put it in the only space I had:  the small people bathroom at FURR.

Kristy, a FURR Volunteer, drove to the animal control (which was out of town for me & a little closer to her) and she got the kitten.  I met her & picked it up.

Well, low & behold, it’s just about the cutest darn thing ive ever seen & just as sweet.  At only 8 weeks old, i was amazed at her happy ways!??

The kitten, named LILAC, stayed at FURR last night.  Thanks to Laura & Jim, the kitten now has an amazing foster home.

I was quite hesitant about handing this tiny, “purrfect” baby over.  Just seeing this kitten you’re smitten!  She won’t last long before being adopted!

Dec. 4, 2025 Bonnie and June kittens adopted together!

I’m trilled to share the picture of the wonderful & cat-loving couple that adopted BONNIE & JUNE!!!  The kittens are doing great and they have such an amazing home with their new adopters!

Many thanks to our FURR volunteers, the Lazours, who fostered the kittens for FURR due to space constraints.  I believe that Laura & Jim cared for & loved these little kitties so much that it helped them transition beautifully into a new home.

Also thanks to Marc & Sarah who alerted me to the kittens needing rescue.  It was so satisfying to get them trapped & out of the woods where they were living.

It takes a village!  Thanks to all who helped with these beautiful kittens!

Oct. 31, 2025 Major update and good news! BONNIE (Siamese mix) & JUNE (Russian Blue mix), the 2 kittens that I trapped & rescued from Rocky Point, NC, are doing great! I can’t thank Laura & Jim enough for fostering these 2 babies! FURR was completely overwhelmed!

Both are SUPER sweet, loving kittens! They love to play together & are healthy & happy sisters! They are now spayed, shots, tested, etc., and ready to go! They are still learning about humans, but coming along quickly! They would probably do best in a quieter home &, of course, priority given to adopters that are willing to keep them together!

BONNIE & JUNE certainly are GORGEOUS kittens with really soft fur! They will not last long, so text FURR soon if you want to squeeze them! Contact Terry Schultz, FURR’s President, at 864-483-2444.

Dec. 26, 2025 Tough day today but for a good reason!

BLOSSOM was adopted today by a wonderful family!  They fell in love with BLOSSOM & the couple has 3 little kids!  There aren’t many cats that I would want to go to such a busy household with children, but BLOSSOM is all about it!

I took BLOSSOM today & she just had a ball looking out all the big windows & running around the master bedroom where she will stay for a while to get acclimated.  The 3 little kids didn’t bother her a bit & I think it was more exciting for her!

I cried all the way home after saying goodbye to this amazing cat.  We are all going to miss BLOSSOM, the “purrfect” cat!

I do think she will be much happier with no other cats around.  She never realized that “she” was a cat, & she didn’t really like other felines to take away attention from her!

This was a wonderful match & a great adoption!  Im so happy & so sad at the same time.  It tears out your heart strings to say goodbye.

Oct. 27, 2025 Meet Blossom, a young Tuxedo female!  She is an “in your face”  kinda girl!  BLOSSOM never met a stranger! Watch her videos: Blossom-1 and Blossom-2

This beautiful Tuxedo girl was surrendered by her owner, who could not care for her properly any more.  

BLOSSOM has been completely vetted by FURR & is in excellent health.  She LOVES to eat, so the sound of a can opening brings her sprinting!!!  

BLOSSOM would probably love to be an only kitty & get all the love for herself, but really, she will fit well in any household.  This one’s a keeper!!!

Nov. 1, 2025 I’ve made the difficult decision today to move these 2 cats from the FURR adoption center out to the sanctuary.

It is heartbreaking for me to have to face the reality that I could not get these cats ready for adoption.

I have spent THREE years working with these 2 cats & I still cannot put Revolution on them, trim their nails or pick them up without an act of Congress!

No one wants these cats & I love them both so much.  I have gotten so close to them….but usually at a distance.  I’m the only one that can pet them, but that’s about it.

Both PERCH & SPOT were trapped & rescued at the Atlantic Seafood place that closed down.

I have no idea what there life was like before I saved them, but I imagine it was survival of the fittest.

It’s difficult to accept that there will be a few feral cats that have been so traumatized by humans that they cannot recover.

I know they will be ok at the sanctuary, but today would be their last Revolution treatment, their last personal “hands on” by me and the last time they will see their close siblings.

PERCH was crying in his temporary cage at the sanctuary & my heart just broke.  When I added SPOT to join him, he quieted down.

I know this is only a temporary transition period, but I hate it for them.  They don’t understand what’s happening to them.

Please say a prayer for PERCH, SPOT & for me.  It’s tough love at Its max.

January 14, 2026 The little black cat that I trapped going through the garbage at Food Lion HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

This adorable tiny cat with a BIG personality went to an amazing family today!  Dad + 6 older kids was “purrfect” for Lioness!  No doubt, Lioness will entertain them as much as they will entertain her!

I could not be happier with this great match!  We will all miss Lioness at FURR and her sweet & playful nature, but this is what it’s all about folks!

September 22, 2025 Last week I was going by Food Lion in Hampstead late one night when I saw a little black kitten rummaging through some trash!

I quickly ran to FURR, got a trap & within about 3 milaseconds, I had her in my trap….she was TINY.  She was quiet as a mouse.

Back at FURR, all I had left was our “people” bathroom & that’s where she would have to go.

I reached into the trap to scruff her & bring her out and she started making air biscuits while I held her by the neck!  

Well, this is good news!  She was actually thrilled that I was holding her & when I put her down, she started rubbing my legs.  

She voraciously ate a can of kitten food & I began treating her for fleas & worms, etc.

I named her “Lioness” since she came from Food Lion & looked like a little black panther.

Needless to say, she is precious, adorable, sweeeet & only a teensy shy.

Someone will be VERY blessed to have this baby in their home!!!

November 26, 2025 The sweet little kitten found crying in the blackberry bushes has a new home!

From the very beginning, this sweet & beautifully semetrical tuxedo boy, was a JOY!

BERRY was super playful, loved life & anyone that would pay him any attention!

His new home is wonderful with a family, 2 other cats & a sweet doggie!

We already miss him @ FURR, but sooo happy for him!!!

October 27, 2025 This ADORABLE little boy, “BERRY”, is ready to go!  Watch his new video!

He is a gorgeous Tuxedo with the softest fur & best personality ever! This little guy was rescued by FURR when he was in a BERRY patch crying for help!  Anyone would be lucky to have him.  His colors are so symmetrical!  Berry is available to be seen @ FURR any time by appointment.  Better hurry….he wont last long!!!

August 29, 2025 A new little one ready for adoption at FURR named “BERRY”!

This little kitten was all alone in the blackberry bushes crying for help!  It was late at night and FURR volunteer, Elizabeth was out walking her dog.  She heard the kitten crying in the bushes and she came and got me.  After a few minutes of the kitten alluding capture, I was finally able to grab him!

BERRY has been amazing!  He loves everybody and is being fostered by Elizabeth.  BERRY loves to cuddle and loves the dog (big golden retriever)! He is truly amazing, happy and playful.  BERRY is fully vetted & ready to go!

March 22, 2026  Great news today!  MINNIE was adopted & went to her new “FURR-ever” home!  This young couple just fell in love with her & visa versa!  MINNIE really took to them & rubbed on them, gave them lots of head bumps & ate treats!    

I feel great about this match up and I broke the news to Alyssia today.  She was happy for MINNIE & sad at the same time.  Alyssia rescued MINNIE near the Surf City bridge, but turned her over to FURR because of her animal menagerie at home not working out.  New puppy & several cats already  

Feb. 2026 Beautiful Minnie is available for adoption! Meet her soon – someone’s bound to fall in love with her!

Feb. 17, 2026 The BEAUTIFUL sweet kitty named “MINNIE” was returned to FURR yesterday.  She was adopted last year, but sadly, the entire dynamic in the household changed with her arrival.

There were already 4 kitties and a new puppy in the home.  MINNIE is super sweet & just a love, but the other cats were just not having it.  MINNIE was scared of the puppy also, so she would probably do best without a dog in the home.

MINNIE is a little less than a year old, absolutely gorgeous & looks exactly like Wildflower’s twin sister!  Both are long haired brownish gray tabby cats!

August 27, 2025 This beautiful little kitten was found by one of our FURR volunteers, Alyssia. She saw the kitten in the marsh and she did whatever it took to catch her!

She was scared and tiny…quite small for her age and very skinny.

After a couple of months, vet work from FURR and lots of love from Alyssia, MINNIE is now ready for adoption!

She is really super sweet, purrrrrs up a storm & has the softest fur! This kitten is fully vetted & gets along well with EVERYONE!

FURR has lots of cute kitty friends that can accompany MINNIE as well!
