Watch Lowes in his new video!

January 9, 2025 – At the location where I was feeding Advance Auto Mama Kitty for several weeks, I noticed that even when she wasn’t in that area (via her tracking collar) the food was still getting eaten. This is a wooded area in the middle of a VERY busy shopping center where NO cats could live safely.

Lowes enjoying regular meals – March 2025

I observed a few times and got a few clips on my wildlife camera and saw a gray striped kitty eating the food.  Of course, as soon as I would approach, it would run. After I finally captured Advance Auto Mama, I kept putting food out for the tabby cat and then I set a trap to save it.

I caught him, no problem, and took him to be neutered and vetted.  He had a HUGE face, so knew he was a male kitty. My goal was to put him in with my feral cats after an isolation period. I put him in the master bathroom at FURR to recuperate after his surgery.  Overall, he was pretty healthy, but he was thin, COVERED in ticks, tested negative for FIV & FeLV and got all his shots.  I did tip his left ear.

Lowes after rescue – Jan 2025

His name is “LOWES”! So, after a week of hurrying his head and shaking in fear, he has started allowing us to rub and scratch him!  He has never attempted to hiss, bite or scratch.  After a week, he has accepted the fact that he is safe, warm, fed & being cared for.

I don’t think LOWES will go to my sanctuary because he is going to be awesome!  He is also GORGEOUS, has a short stout body and a short tail!

  • Crappie (like the type of fish) Adopted!

Crappie (like the type of fish) Adopted!

April 28, 2025 Wonderful news! CRAPPIE is adopted! Last week I took CRAPPIE to her new home! The adopter is a veterinarian & super sweet!  She LOVES our sweet little CRAPPIE!  Crappie traveled great in the car looking around & never made a peep.

After CRAPPIE got adopted a few months ago & returned after only a few days, I am thrilled that this home will be so much better for her!  The vet is a beautiful petite little lady just like CRAPPIE!  She understands that in a new home, you have to be patient with a new kitty!  She also has a dog & I loaned her my baby gate to make the intro to the dog go smoothly.

Crappie’s new mom tells me that she is eating, using her litter box & purring up a storm!  She will be a little shy for a while, but considering all she has been through, the reports that I am getting sound great!

This poor little kitty was rescued at the Atlantic Seafood production plant along with at least 60+ other cats. Crappie was skin & bones & was already blind in one eye.  It’s a miracle that she survived long enough for me to save her!

I’m so happy right now for this special little kitty & for the special lady that adopted her!!!

January 24, 2025 My name is CRAPPIE, like the fish! Meet me in this video! I was rescued used by FURR at the Atlantic Seafood plant in Hampstead.  That plant was torn down & I was saved along with about 70 other relatives of mine!

I’m just a tiny little girl, a couple years old and I am VERY SPECIAL because I am blind in one eye.

I do just fine with one eye & I never feel sorry for myself!  It’s hard for me to understand why I am still up for adoption?  I guess folks want “purrfect” cats?  BUT, I am so adorable, sweet & tiny.  My little upside down smile gives me that funny “Grumpy Cat” look!  LOL!

Please come & visit me!  I really don’t see how you could meet me & not love me!

Meet all FURR kitties available for adoption on PetFinder!

While we are so grateful to our community of supporters for helping FURR survive this long, we are continuing to struggle and unfortunately moving backwards in terms of our expenses versus our donations due to several rescues this year where the kitties needed expensive veterinary care, such as the kitties rescued from living near an Advance Auto store. We don’t know how much longer we can sustain this trend, but we can’t stop saving the FURR kitties! Our work is too important, so we are asking for your help to make ends meet.

If you’re not in a position to donate, you can also help by sharing FURR’s GIVINGGRID with others you think might want to help too. You can also share FURR’s facebook page!
Somehow, we always find a way to make it through for the benefit of all our precious kitties. Sometimes it almost seems impossible and we look back and wonder how we got by. Then we remember, our miracle is you! Thank you for helping us!

January 24, 2025 SWEET update from BADGER’s new family!  BADGER (now “Shadow”) is the declawed Russian Blue mix kitty rescued after being abandoned at a junk yard!  Still can’t believe that…

These pictures will make your hearts so happy that we are all part of saving these precious lives!!!

Badger with his new family – Nov 2024

November 24, 2024 BADGER’S HAPPY ENDING!!! BADGER, the declawed Russian Blue male cat that was ABANDONED in a carrier with a kitten, has found his happy home!

Badger & Swirls were BOTH left inside a carrier together & left at a scrap yard !!! Thank goodness the carrier was found before they DIED in there and Kristy & other rescue folks contacted me!

Badger went to a wonderful foster home to live until we could get him checked out at the vet & fatten him up. He was VERY skinny & looked pretty rough with an unkept coat, etc.

Once we got healthy & happy, I had a million calls for him, but one family really suited him the best!  They have 2 little girls and Badger is getting more love than he knows what to do with!  These whole family is thrilled to have this sweet & beautiful cat!  The pictures tell it all! My heart  is so happy!!! Terry  >^,,^<

November 5, 2024 The beautiful declawed male Russian Blue mix has been adopted by a wonderful family!  This kitty was left for dead in a carrier in a scrap yard!!!  Inside the carrier with him was Swirls!!!

Badger with new family’s daughter – Nov 2024

I would love to prosecute people that abandon animals this way. With more and more camera surveillance going on, people better beware!  I take this very seriously and it is now a federal offense to abandoned an animal!  Jail time and a fine will be coming your way if caught!

BADGER is the sweetest boy and has been in a wonderful foster home for a few months.  He will be going to his new home this weekend!  I’m so thrilled the family has 2 young teen girls that are totally smitten with BADGER!  Life for him will be great!

Last, but definitely not least is an emotional one for me……EXTREMELY emotional!  In fact, I can’t even type this without bawling my eyes out….

    Addie & Toto 9-9-24

September 23, 2024 UPDATE ON MAMA CAT & 2 BABIES RESCUED! The mama cat and 2 babies that I trapped that were living behind Advance Auto in Hampstead are doing OK.  They were living in and out of the dumpster.  I would see them on my way home from FURR at night and with NO other rescue interested in saving feral cats, I just had to save them, I have so many black shorthair cats.

The cat family was starving and living very close to Hwy. 17!  Surely they would die soon from starvation, parasites, disease, cars or coyotes.  They really didn’t have a chance to survive there.

Mama (see below) is very feral.  I can barely pet her while she is hissing at me.  I took her to Sound Cat, our vet, to be spayed, shots, microchipped, etc.  She recovered in a cage at FURR for a week and then I moved her out to our sanctuary.  She has a slight head tilt, so I can always know which one she is.  The vet said this could be from head trauma or from being hit by a car, etc.  Who knows, but she is eating and pooping normally.

The 2 kittens went to the vet for exam and 1st shots.  They are TERRIFIED.  They are 2 little girls about 12 weeks old, but the smaller one, “TOTO” is way underweight and REALLY feral.  The larger kitten, “Addie” is a little less scared.

Doc Rockwell informed me that TOTO has cataracts!  We don’t know how much she can see which may be part of her fear. I need to schedule an appointment with the animal eye specialist to see if TOTO can be helped at all.

I’m syringe feeding them because they don’t want to eat. Meanwhile, they are safe at FURR and I’m doing my best to care for them.

I’m really scared there may be more siblings, so I’m setting traps every am and pm keeping a close watch just in case.

    Little Mama 09-01-24

September 1, 2024 Watch this video of this little kitty mama finally enjoying some good food along with Terry’s encouragement. Here is their story …

I saw a cat and babies a couple weeks ago in a Hampstead store parking lot.  You can imagine my thoughts of horrible things happening to them.

I put out food and water and went back every night to feed them, while wondering why I am the ONLY person that sees these things! They seemed to disappear after a couple of days, but I still kept putting food and water out every night.

Yesterday, I joined my husband and friends for dinner before a final check on FURR for the night. It was about 11:30 pm when we were on the way home and the Mom and babies were in the parking lot scrounging around the dumpsters. I went back to FURR to get traps and I waited until I caught mom and 1 baby!

Tonight, I got a second baby and I do believe there is a third. I’ll be back again tomorrow night to try for the last kitten. I feel so bad knowing it’s all alone out there!

Mom is VERY tiny and probably no more than 6 months old. The babies are probably around 3-4 months old. They are all black and otherwise just skin and bones – literally starving. I also managed to get flea/worm medicine on all three.

  • Remembering sweet, special Tux

    Remembering sweet, special Tux

    Terry comforts Tux 7-31-25

July 31, 2025 It is with the heaviest heart that I bring you the sad news that TUX went over the rainbow bridge today.  I held him in my arms & soaked his head with tears as Dr. Gervais, (Sound Cat) gently and kindly, helped TUX exit our world.

This truly amazing cat was a FURR favorite.  I trapped him on the FURR property.  He showed up starving, skinny & very feral.  It took me about 2 weeks to get him in a trap.

During his exam, neuter, shots, deworming, etc., it appeared that he had been hit by a car.  He had a limp and sat a little sideways.  An x-ray showed that he had suffered a broken pelvis (that had healed on its own) and he had kidney damage.

With a lot of love, food & simple vitamins, TUX became SUPER happy and sweet!  He gained weight & had several followup visits to the vet to monitor his kidney functions.

Everything was going great until 2 days ago.  TUX stopped eating, became very quiet & sat with his head facing away from us.

I knew right away that things had taken a turn for the worst.

This am early I took him to Sound Cat for an emergency visit.  His bloodwork showed that his kidneys had completely shut down.  His numbers were off the chart.  I knew he was feeling bad.  The news wasn’t good and there is nothing that can be done for a cat when kidneys give up.

I am so thankful for Dr. Gervais.  She eased my pain and said this was the only choice.

I have literally cried all day.  I am going to miss this remarkable cat so much.  He was extremely special and im so sorry his time on this earth was cut short.  I will always love him.  He was only 4 or 5 years old.

Bless you all for making him feel loved @ FURR.

Tux’s story, in dated postings below, is a perfect example of what we do at FURR – we see love, beauty and potential in kitties we find in horrible situations, and then make the difference that matters … forever.

May 14, 2025 Tux will be featured in the June Pawprints Magazine! See his latest videos below!

    Tux posing Nov 2024

    Watch his new videos:

New video in May 2025 showing what a lovebug he is as Terry tells his amazing rescue & rehab story and explains his special needs.

New video in January 2025 showing his very affectionate nature!

New video in December 2024 describing his big improvements!

December 24, 2024 Took sweet TUX to the vet this am.  He’s having a rough time. With his broken pelvis and injury to his kidneys, probably from being hit by a car, he is a “special needs kitty” who needs medicine and maintenance for the rest of his life.

The good news is that he doesn’t know there’s anything wrong! He gets around just like all the other kitties and is easy to medicate. His medications help address the kidney damage from his injuries, but the meds are not expensive at all. He takes whatever you need to give him – no problem! What a great sport!

More importantly, TUX is just the sweetest cat you could ever meet!  It’s so unfair that he had to begin his young life homeless and injured.  He loves to rub on your legs and be petted and held. The vet says he’s around 6 years old and there is every reason to hope that he’ll have a long and happy life just like any other kitty. Best of all, he gives TONS of love in return to the extra care he needs. Everyone wins!

We hope and pray that a caring person will come along and adopt him for his amazing personality, knowing his misfortune, and will love him all the more!

October 17, 2024 Watch his new video! TUX is doing well in his large holding pen at the sanctuary.  This poor cat is skin & bones, but for a week now he is eating and drinking everything i put in front of him!  He must have been starving.

TUX has been easy to care for & although he is scared and timid, I have been able to pet & stroke him without incident.

This is good and bad!  I am completely full at FURR, but i know if I release TUX into the sanctuary, I won’t be able to work with him every day.

He really seems like he wants love and he is a young cat around 2 -4 years old.

    Tux after rescue – 10-9-24

October 9, 2024 So a cat has been seen running by my sanctuary in the evenings.  I’ve been putting food & water out for it.  The cat seemed pretty feral, was VERY skinny and I knew I had to help him.

At first I thought he was black and could be one of my missing ferals!  However, when I finally got a good look at him on my outside cameras, I could see that he did not have a tipped ear & he was actually a Tuxedo (white belly, chest & paws).

I was able to humanely trap him last night and I took him to the S/N clinic today.

He is, in fact, a boy (not neutered), very thin, covered in fleas, no collar and no microchip.  He hissed at me several times showing his disapproval of the events of the day!

But now, he has settled in his large recovery cage (large chicken coop) and is resting.

Calling him “Tux” since he will be the only tuxedo in the sanctuary…..as bad as that name is!

Tux tested negative for FIV & FeLV & HW and is now neutered, had all his shots, is microchipped, dewormed and treated for fleas.

    Welcome to FURR sanctuary TUX!
