Feb, 1, 2026 Ensure your kitty cannot ingest string, cords, or other dangerous household materials – see list below! Please read and share this important reminder
A client of mine that adopted a cat from FURR, has had a harrowing experience accidentally eating fishing line!
When I adopt out cats, I try to cover a LOT of information, but sometimes it is an overwhelming amount of data. I try to explain one thing for sure:
NEVER, EVER allow any cat access to the following:
Blind cords
String of any kind
Yarn
Thread
Hair ties
Rubber bands
Filament
Etc.
All of these things are extremely fun for cats to play with & extremely dangerous for them to play with.
My client has some fishing line inside the house. Supposedly the fishing line was out of reach.
When a couple inches of fishing line was seen sticking out of the cat’s mouth, a trip to the animal ER was eminent.
NEVER try to pull on the string or line sticking out (of either end of the cat!) Let the ER vet handle. Severe damage can be done to the cat’s organs if you try to pull it out!!!
After this horrible incident and $1,000 bill at the ER, it was determined that nothing could be done except wait to see if the line would pass. If the line didnt get passed within a day or so, exploratory surgery was next.
After many tears and prayers, and THREE days of waiting, the cat passed an enormous amount of fishing line in his poop!
This is truly an act of GOD for this much line to feed through the cat’s body without wrapping around & getting hung up on his organs!
Folks, ive seen a lot of things with cat rescue, but I have never seen a cat successfully pass this amount of line (or string) without surgery.
BEWARE! LOOK AROUND YOUR HOUSE & PLEASE KEEP YOUR PRECIOUS CATS SAFE!
Here’s a picture to absorb in your brains! I’m still trying to take it all in.
VERY frightening & thrilled this cat didn’t die!!!

FURR’s Giving Tuesday GivingGrid! Donate Today!

Oscar & Tony Adopted! Donate today via FURR’s Giving Tuesday GivingGrid!
FURR is working hard to rescue as many cats and kittens in our area as possible, restore them to good health and then find loving FURR-ever homes for each one.
However the demand for rescues far exceeds our resources. So we need your help!
We need funds for critical post-rescue veterinary care for injuries and illnesses as well as ongoing care such as food, litter, meds, etc. to prepare them for adoption!
We can’t let ill or injured animals go untreated or worse, be euthanized, just because there’s no room and no money.

Food Donations needed In the spirit of GivingTuesday, please help us and the kitties we care for!
Help save your next FURR-ever friend! It’s easy, secure and the kitties will love having a chance at a FURR-ever home – maybe yours!

Foster or Adopt Shrimp and Red Fish! New Video!

Red Fish (L) & Shrimp (R) December 2025 – I noticed the other week that SHRIMP had horrible breath! That can be a sign of mouth infection & bad teeth/gums. I looked in her mouth & could see she had dental problems. I got her in to Sound Cat for a dental. Luckily they had an opening and she went yesterday.
$1,300 later, most of her teeth had been pulled! She will surely feel better after healing up from the surgery. Poor thing!
SHRIMP’S brother, RED FISH, also had a dental, with most teeth pulled, about a month ago. I guess it’s genetic plus bad nutrition before being rescued.
These dental surgeries are necessary not only because of the infection from broken or bad teeth/gums, but also to relieve pain.
Pictures of RED FISH & SHRIMP. Both siblings still waiting for a home this Christmas!

Shrimp – Aug 2025 November 2025 – Watch this adorable video of Red Fish hoping for a FURR-ever home for Christmas!
September 2025 – More great photos of Shrimp and Red Fish! They’ll be so happy to have a FURR-ever home. Learn more about their amazing story below.
May 19, 2025 RED FISH & SHRIMP have come back & are in Room 3. They are doing really well considering & need LOTS of gentle love. SHRIMP will hiss at everyone, but she is just scared & you can pet & love on her. RED FISH is super sweet but scared. These poor cats have been gone TWO years & now back at FURR. I love them both & will see to it that their future WILL be better!
April 23, 2023 A wonderful lady named Chris has been fostering Red Fish & Shrimp. I went by a couple days ago to put their Revolution on them, trim their nails & visit.
Chris has done an amazing job with these 2 cats! Considering their horrible beginning at the fish place, they are now loved, cared for and safe in a beautiful home! Chris has been great to take my advice and take it very slowly with them. They have graduated from the large bathroom to include the master bedroom!

These pictures show how great the kitties have progressed. I am so thankful to Chris for spending this valuable time with them!
Feb. 4, 2022 This tiny but colorful girl is longing for someone to love her! She came from a rough place when she was very young, but she has made huge progress and just needs a little reassurance and love! Read her story in the “Seafood Colony” article. She is so soft and loves to be petted and brushed! She is a gently girl and still shy but ready for the next step in her little life. She gets along great with other non-dominant cats that won’t pick on her. If you want a gorgeous, sweet and quiet little cat to love, she is your girl!
For adoption information or to schedule a visit to the Feline Urgent Rescue & Rehab rescue facility to meet this kitty, please email FURR’s President and Founder, Terry Schultz, at adoptafurrcat@gmail.com.
