Michael’s Dental Surgery has an extra Surprise! Fundraiser!

Michael – now Michelle – Dental Surgery $1,229.69 Invoice 8-31-26
Michael (now Michelle) arriving at FURR – June 2026

Sept. 1, 2026 MICHAEL had his dental surgery yesterday.  He did well & had almost all of his teeth removed.

Michael’s surgery was $1,200! Please donate securely via FURR’s PayPal page!

The good news is that he should do well after surgery and hopefully will start eating better and gain some weight!

He is the 3rd kitty out of the 4 rescued ferals from one location needing some serious dental surgery.  Luckily, the 4th kitty has good teeth!

The interesting news about this surgery is that MICHAEL is a girl!

Sound Cat and I never bothered to look because it was an already ear tipped orange tabby and just assumed it was a boy!!!  LOL!

When I picked up Michael yesterday from Sound Cat, we were all laughing because he is now “MICHELLE”!!!

  • Treasure’s Amazing Rescue & Rehab Story

Treasure’s Amazing Rescue & Rehab Story

    Treasure – Sept 2026
    Treasure – Sept 2026

Sept 7, 2026 This extremely feral cat has made HUGE progress after only a few months.  Watch this month’s video!

It’s amazing to compare his Sept. 2026 video above with this mid-February 2026 video from shortly after he was captured.

When FURR trapped “TREASURE” in mid-February 2026, he was feral, had badly matted fur, thin, dirty and angry and had a mouthful of dental issues.

Here is a video from early March 2026 right after his dental surgery. He had 3 broken canine teeth pulled and 1 canine was gone!  Luckily, he did not have any other problems, such as stomatitis or gingivitis. I’m sure those broken canines were quite painful. After the surgery, but while he was still somewhat sedated, I was able to pet him a little without my bite glove on. This is one gorgeous cat.

    Treasure – Sept 206
    Treasure – June 2026

It took me weeks to be able to pet him (with bite gloves on), but I spent hours & hours with him.  I brushed him & got all the mats out of his fur.  I talked to him, gave him treats and discovered that he is extremely food motivated.

The difference in his beginning and where he is now is truly amazing!

I was very reluctant to take in another feral cat at the moment.  Ive been overwhelmed with too many cats, but I took him in and it is an amazing story.

TREASURE still needs more work before adoption, but he is very close!  Look at this BEAUTIFUL cat now!!!

FURR in PawPrints – Closing Ad July 2026- pg 2 of 2

April 16, 2026 URGENTLY NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR A SWEET, LOVING MAMA AND 4 BEAUTIFUL KITTENS! Last week a lady dropped off a stray cat at Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital. The lady said the kitty was having problems (but wasn’t her kitty. She was having kittens!

Sound Cat called me & said they don’t keep moms & babies! I went & got them & unfortunate, since I’m out of room at the rescue, the mom & FOUR kittens are at my house!

I promised my husband i would NOT bring any more cats & kittens home if i opened a rescue

The cat is SUPER friendly & the 4 kittens are adorable. I don’t have any room at FURR, but I do want them at FURR as soon as possible because this mama THRIVES on attention & love!

I don’t have time or space to give her what she needs! Thanks!

  • Fosters and Adopters Needed!

    Fosters and Adopters Needed!

    Please Foster or Adopt!

    Fosters and Adopters

July 2026 – As a result of our announcement that FURR is Indefinitely Closed to New Intakes“, we need Foster and Adopter homes!

Meet all FURR kitties available for foster or adoption on Petfinder!

We have so many wonderful cats – too many for our facility, so we’re eager to find foster and adoptive homes for them.

How to Become a Foster or Adopter:

    1. Learn more about FURR’s Foster & Adoption Process.
    2. Complete our Foster or Adoption Application.

FURR fosters and adopts to approved homes only in the Hampstead/Wilmington and surrounding area.

Fosters and Adopters should be prepared to spend time with the cat(s) and able to keep them in a totally separate room. This timeframe is unique to each kitty. Sometimes it only takes a few days, but it may take a few weeks for a kitty to become relaxed and comfortable in your home.

    For our Fosters:

    • FURR covers a fostered kitty’s food, litter, supplies and any needed vet costs for as long as they are in the foster’s care
    • We also ask our Fosters to please also be prepared to notify Terry at Adoptafurrcat@gmail.com at least 2 weeks in advance if you’re no longer able to continue to fostering.

If you are not ready to foster or adopt a kitty, please consider sponsoring.

    All donations are tax deductible.

FURR’s Sept. 2026 CatVideoFest was a great success!

FURR was invited to attend for the second year in a row and once again we had a great presentation, dedicated volunteers to staff our location, generous donations, a coffee bar and even an adoption – our boy Fury (attached photo of the black kitty and Fury with his new family)!

Terry brought a few other special kitty friends – Bumble BeeHoney & Cinnemon and Ringo.

In addition to $322 in donations in our jar, FURR will receive 10% of the overall event’s proceeds!

Here’s a special thank you to Kathy & Laura for volunteering their time on Saturday and Sunday and to everyone one who was there to support us or stopped by to say hello.

We also had some visitors interested in volunteering and hopefully additional adoptions.

August 15, 2026 I noticed that THOMASINA was not responding to my petting her and had her head tucked down between her front paws!  I knew something was wrong.

Our veterinarian, the Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital, worked her in for me on Aug. 14th and we learned that she needs FULL MOUTH EXTRACTIONS!

  • FURR is Pausing New Intakes – What does it mean?

FURR is Pausing New Intakes – What does it mean?

FURR in July 2026 PawPrints Magazine – page 27

June 2026 -FURR is changing it’s focus due to Terry’s recent health concerns.

FURR has a 2-page ad in the July issue of PawPrints magazine announcing we are closing Indefinitely.*

What does this mean for FURR Supporters, Fosters, Adopters and Volunteers?

In short, it means two things:

    • No new kitties – We’re “Closing Indefinitely for New Intakes”
    • Need Your Help – Our Supporters are as critical as ever!

*See our Ad on pages 27 (left) and 29 (above).

Each of you is critical to ensure that our transition through the 2 Phases outlined below runs as smoothly as possible for the sake of people and kitties!:

    • Phase 1 is complete when all kitties that are ready for adoption are adopted or living with a foster:
      • No further intake of new kitties effective immediately
      • FURR continues to need support from all volunteers and donors in caring for available kitties on Petfinder while they await fostering or adoption
      • FURR continues to need Fosters and Adopters to approved homes in the Hampstead/Wilmington area as per our current process and Application
      • FURR covers a fostered kitty’s food, litter, supplies and any needed vet costs for as long as they are in the foster’s care
      • Ferals remain in the Sanctuary – no changes for now
      • Timeline TBD, but we’re hoping this is complete by the end of 2026
    • Phase 2 is complete when Terry decides the long-term plan for the Feral Sanctuary:
      • No further intake of new kitties effective immediately
      • Future plans depend in part on Terry’s health recovery
      • Final arrangements for the Feral Sanctuary and the FURR Properties is TBD

None of this is going to happen overnight. In fact, we’re not in control of the timeline on accomplishing each Phase. So please continue to do the wonderful work each of you are doing to care for our kitties as Terry leads FURR in this new approach during the months to come.

Thank you so much for your understanding and for all you do for FURR!

Please let Terry and I know if you have any questions or concerns at adoptafurrcat@gmail.com

    Best regards,

  • Urgent Reminder: Lilies are Lethally Toxic to Cats!

Urgent Reminder: Lilies are Lethally Toxic to Cats!

August 3, 2026 Urgent reminder: Lilies are lethal (within hours!) toxic to cats (and dogs)!

    Helpful resources:

    > PetMD – What To Do If Your Cat Ingests a Lily Flower

    > ASPCA – List of Lilies Toxic to Cats – full view of image above

    > ASPCA Poison Control: 888-426-4435

Our Volunteer, Kate, is fighting for the lives of her two kitties when they simply touched lily pollen! Here is their story –

My mom sent me flowers for my birthday – lilies. I thought they were beautiful, but my cousin said they were toxic to cats, so I put them in my bedroom, which I usually keep closed off to the cats.

I was spending time with my girls yesterday and I left my bedroom door open, not thinking about the flowers. While I was eating lunch, Party and Addie went into my room and got up close with the flowers. They were sniffing them and got pollen on them. Party walked up to me right after and I saw a big smudge of pollen on her face. I immediately wiped it off and looked up lilies. I had no idea how poisonous they are to cats! They can cause kidney failure within 24 hours of not treated immediately.

Within 5 minutes I was on the phone with the emergency vet who guided me to reach out to the poison control line. They told me to take them to the vet ER immediately. I immediately called and texted Terry asking her to come help me get the kitties into their carriers. Terry immediately dropped everything and came over. She was able to get them in their carriers in 2 minutes – a miracle!! I couldn’t have done it without her!!!

I got the kitties to the hospital within 1 hour of interaction of the flowers. They immediately took them back and checked both of them out. They sedated them (Party first since she had the most pollen on her), and then bathed them, took blood work, gave them medicine to help them throw up (didn’t work) and hooked them up to an IV.

They hit the 24 hour mark at 4:30 today. Blood was drawn at 3 and both of their kidney levels are normal so far. They will be in the ER for 72 hours, getting blood drawn every 6 hours. Tonight at 9 is the next blood draw. I’m praying for my kitties. They are my babies, my everything. Please share this and ask for everyone’s prayers and healing thoughts!!

    Thank you 🙏🙏

    Kate
