Connor and Swirl enjoy new home – Dec 2024

December 19, 2024 Update on Swirl & Connor! Kittens have been doing great even after only one day! They are playing, sleeping with Penny and keeping her entertained!

Penny laughed about the cats shredding her newspaper this morning!  I’m glad she found it humorous and I’m sure Swirls & Connor (now “Bingo”) enjoyed it!

Here are some pictures in their new home!  Makes my heart so happy!!!

Connor and Swirls at home with their new Mom 12-16-2024

December 16, 2024 CONNOR & SWIRL have arrived in their new home! HAPPY BUT SAD NEWS today saying goodbye to two of the best rescue kitties we’ve ever had!!!

Both left today with their new & wonderful mom, Penny, and made their way to their new VA home! Watch them happily explore!

Wow, I’m really gonna miss those cute kitties and their unbelievable kind nature. We don’t get personalities like that every day.  Although all of our cats are amazing in their own ways, these two were just that cream of the crop!

Thanks to Deb & Rick for helping match up this trio (Deb is Penny’s sister) and I look forward to getting updates.

Penny did text me and they arrived safe and sound.  She sent me a very short video of the cats chasing each other only moments after being let out of their carriers!!!

Happy tears coming down my face. – Terry

November 5, 2024 CONNOR & SWIRL are being adopted TOGETHER!  My heart is so happy, but I will miss those purrrrr motors & sweet faces so much!  They will be traveling to VA sometime in Dec.  I don’t usually adopt out of town, but this lady is the sister of one of our HUGE supporters and adopters!  I trust her explicitly & could not be more excited!  I will send pictures later with their new mom!

October 17, 2024 Updated photo (above) of the MOST AMAZING KITTEN IN THE WORLD! Soft, sweet, loves everybody and super cudley! READY FOR ADOPTION!

    Swirl with a toy 8-6-24

August 8, 2024 New ADORABLE kitten at FURR with unique “swirl” markings on her fur!  Isn’t she a beauty!

Watch her new video at FURR on August 13, 2024!

It is a FELONY to discard an animal like trash and this would be a 2 count offense.  Thank GOD someone came along in the late afternoon that saw them!

After this poor little female kitten was abandoned at a scrap yard in ONE carrier with another adult cat, she is lucky to be alive.  The extreme heat was enough to kill them both.

    Aug 8, 2024

The adult cat has been rescued by another group and the kitten came to FURR.

She is the sweetest thing and meows or purrs all the time.  She is on her way to getting healthy and gaining weight.  She will make a beautiful addition to anyone’s home & she seems to get along fine with all the other FURR kittens!

SUCCESS: Kuranda Matching Campaign (7 Towers still needed!)

    Kuranda-image-Feb-2025

Sept 22, 2025 Thanks to Kuranda AND our generous Donors, FURR is receiving 8 Donations + 5 Matching Donations!:

    3 Cat Towers (2 Donated, + 1 Matching Donation)

    10 Cat Beds (6 Donated + 4 Matching Donations)

Please note: We still need 7 more Cat Towers to finish replacing existing wood/carpet ones deemed unacceptable by our NC State Inspector.

September 1, 2025 – Kuranda will DONATE a MATCHING PRODUCT for each of the NEXT 5 DONATIONS to FURR starting today!

Please click on the Kuranda image on the right to donate today!

These beds and towers are great for FURR kitties:

Easy cleanup vs. carpeted or cloth trees or beds
Multiple cozy nooks for cats in the 7-level style
Save floor space with their stackable design
Durable, strong and great climbing kitties
Longer lasting than wood or carpet/cloth beds

Our kitties would looooove having several more beds and towers. Both products are much more comfortable for the kitties and much easier for us to move and clean than carpeted trees and other types of beds!

You can also Donate from our Wishlist, which includes a wide variety of supplies we use everyday – including household items that fit any budget!

New Gazebo in FURR Facility Yard 10-25-2024

October 29, 2024 Last week I personally paid to have a very large, but very old, gazebo moved from my home to the FURR Ferals’ facility!

    New Gazebo kitties love 10-25-2024

I thought they might like it and we rarely used it.

Well, I was right!  The FURR FERALS play  on it and enjoy it every day!  I’m so happy that it gives them another fun thing to do!

    New Sanctuary – April 2024

September 2024 Learn how to Donate a Kuranda Bed! We’ve also updated our Wishlist with many things our kitties need that are inexpensive household items!

We appreciate the generous donations we’ve recently received to help supply the new sanctuary’s ongoing needs to feed, vet and house all FURR’s kitties – those ready for adoption (varies between 10-20, sometimes more) and those still in post-rescue rehabilitation (varies between 25-50 kitties).

July 2024 Many thanks again for your continued support for the new sanctuary as detailed below. We’ve come a long way and donations are still much appreciated!

June 28, 2024 We still need to raise funds for vetting and moving ferals into our new sanctuary. In our ongoing efforts to ensure we’re using FURR’s resources as efficiently and effectively as possible, this project has been one of our highest priorities in recent months. Now that all FURR kitties are consolidated into one location, we need to replenish the funds we had for day-to-day care and feeding that were re-directed for this special project. Terry & Team are now able to devote much more time and resources to caring for kitties in the new sanctuary.

    Salmon – FURR Feral 06/2024

June 24, 2024 ALL OF THE FURR FERALS HAVE BEEN MOVED into our new sanctuary, shown here!  Many thanks to my sister, Fran, for helping me many mornings catching these cats.  Many were already trap savvy and she had to help me net them.  It was stressful for all of us.  We hate upsetting the cats and it was truly a test of our tough love. Every cat was re-vetted and I took one or two cats to Sound Cat every day for almost 3 weeks! Each cat was examined, got updated shots and treatment for fleas/worms.  I have a HUGE respect for the Sound Cat vet’s, techs and staff!  They were so patient and wonderful to help me with this project.  I’m glad it’s over!

Ferals in New Sanctuary – 6-13-24

These FURR FERALS from Atlantic Seafood seem to be settling in to their new sanctuary home pretty well but all still scared and confused after being trapped again (or netted). Ninety-five percent of the Atlantic Seafood cats are black with a white spot on their chest. There are also 5 torties, 1 siamese, 1 orange and 2 gray striped tabbies.  All the rest are black and beautiful.

Ferals in New Sanctuary – 6-13-24

This building and property has been my project for over a year now.  There is a lot more room for the cats inside the building and outside in a fenced in area. The cats will stay contained in the building (which is cooled and heated) for at least 30 days.  After that, hopefully they will understand that this is their new home. I did install security cameras all over the place so I can monitor the cats inside and eventually outside. Even though the cats have a lot more room, they are still cuddling up together in one of the three lofts I made for them up high!

Please know that dropping off cats, or any animals, is a felony.  FURR FERALS is at FULL CAPACITY, has NO volunteers (only me 7 days a week and twice a day) and is struggling financially.

4 Successful Dental Surgeries after Generous Donation

    Tang Fish – 06/2024
Trigger Fish (formerly Blue Fish) – 06/2024
    Algae –
    06/2024
    Autumn –
    04-2024

July 15, 2024 Good news – All 4 dentals are done! Tang’s dental surgery was successful after treating infection, broken teeth (28 teeth removed), abscesses and fire engine red gums! Algae’s dental surgery on July 9 was also successful after treating an infected mouth removing 24 teeth! They will both soon be healed and enjoying pain free mouths! Trigger Fish’s dental was successfully done July 8 and Autumn is also feeling much better after her dental surgery in May.

Salmon, shown in the section above about the new sanctuary, also had a horrible mouth and needed teeth pulled, and so now thankfully has had successful dental surgery on July 16.

June 28, 2024 Wonderful news! Thanks to a very generous donor, we can now plan for the dental surgeries for the 4 feral kitties urgently in need, including Tang Fish! Recently, a family adopted another older FURR kitty that had undergone an urgently needed full mouth dental extraction that FURR paid for when the kitty was rescued. So this kitty’s new family kindly wants to “Pay it Forward“!

This donation pays for these FOUR dental surgeries: TANG FISH, AUTUMN, ALGAE and TRIGGER

June 24, 2024 A kitty named “TANG FISH” (yes, that’s a fish name and yes, he is an orange kitty) BADLY needs a dental!!! TANG is an older feral and his teeth and gums are so bad that we moved him up on the waiting list! Poor cat! He deserves a happy, pain free life! So, that’s gonna be at least $1,000 for a FULL MOUTH removal of teeth.

Original Story about the Sanctuary and Dentals Needed

June 14, 2024 – What’s new at FURR? Two things – Our sanctuary and of course more rescues!

Terry has worked very hard for over a year to complete the new FURR sanctuary, all the while rescuing more kitties! So now while Terry moves kitties in, please help us raise funds for these urgent needs:

Vaccinate and move ferals to our new sanctuary – $200 per kitty / $2,400 total:

    • I have re-trapped, or netted, one or two feral cats per day from the holding pen at my house.  It has taken nonstop work and two or more trips to the vet every day.  Each cat is sedated, given updated shots, full exam and treated for fleas/parasites.
    • Two dozen cats have been done so far and moved to their permanent new FURR sanctuary.
    • Each cat costs about $200 including sedation.
    • TWELVE cats left to be trapped, vetted and moved- total cost approx. $2,400

    Multiple dental surgeries needed:

    • Three of the cats need dental work:
      • AUTUMN – FURR ADOPTABLE cat and dental has been done for $800, but we never raised enough money, so this came out of our operating budget.
      • TRIGGER FISH – FURR FERAL is scheduled July 8th FULL MOUTH EXTRACTIONS approx. $1,000 – $1,200
      • ALGAE – FURR FERAL is scheduled for July 9th dental with about 2 or 3 extractions approx. $800

    Food and Litter:

    • We have auto deductions from the checking account every 2 weeks from Chewy for food and litter.
      • Litter: $350 every 2 weeks = $700 per monthFood: Chewy runs $718 every 2 weeks = $1,436 a month
      • Royal Canin dry food runs us $255 every other month or $128 a month

    Ongoing care:

    • The other expenses FURR encounters are:
      • Vet bills related to each kitty’s rescue and recovery
      • Supplies – gloves, cleaning supplies, dish washing liquid, paper towels, kitty treats, toys, water filters, carrier pads, disinfectants, mopping pads and solution, toilet paper, Feliway refills, air fresheners, scratcher refills and so on and more.

We currently have $300 in our checking account!

Thank you for helping us get all the FURR kitties moved into our new sanctuary and to care for them after they’ve survived so much during their rescues and recoveries!

  • Mona is Adopted!

    Mona is Adopted!

Mona with new Mom Laura – May 2024

May 31, 2024 I’m so happy to announce another adoption!!!  “MONA” kitty was rescued by FURR & was adopted before we even advertised her!  I wish they all would get adopted that fast!

Kristy called to tell me about cats living in Rocky Point at a gas station.  She investigated & found out the convenient store clerks were feeding them.  Kristy alerted me to the fact that there were at least 5 cats there. Kristy and I started to try to save them.  I was able to trap 2 of the teenagers and another rescue group had agreed to take them.

Then we rescued a large adult cat that had been abandoned by a nearby business.  Kristy managed to get him in a carrier and we had another rescue take him.

That left 3 cats with no where to go.  I decided to take one cat (being already overloaded with cats) and Kristy had befriended “MONA” and was able to get her into a carrier.

After getting her fixed, shots, etc., she came to FURR & tamed up beautifully!

It didn’t take any time and our own volunteer, Laura, fell in love with MONA!

Laura adopted MONA and added her to her current family:  husband, 2 rescued dogs, Daddy Batts (FURR cat!), Coral (FURR cat), and 2 other kitties!

All is going great & here are some wonderful pictures!

There are still 2 cats living at the convenience store.  Both are BLACK!  One is younger & probably MONA’s sibling or possible kitten.  He’s a boy and needs RESCUE!!!

The other kitty already has an ear tip, but needs help with an injured eye.  This one is also earning Kristy’s trust as she is making sure they have daily food & water!

THANK U LAURA for giving another rescued cat a home!!!

This cutie pie Tuxedo kitten was rescued by FURR and although we quickly fell in love with him, we have a waiting list of kittens needing to be saved.

    Connor’s rescuers – June 2024

June 3, 2024 We have a new little fellow at FURR!  His name is “Connor” and he is about 6 weeks old. He is an adorable, happy and tiny little tuxedo boy. He is totally precious!!!

The kind mother and daughter that saved him drove him all the way to FURR from Charlotte after getting my OK.  They trusted FURR to take great care of him and find him the right home.

Our sweet little kitten Wendy will be leaving soon (gosh the kittens go fast) so now Bridgett will have a playmate.

Bridgett Adopted & reunited with sister Wendy!

July 26, 2024 Sometimes FURR wishes do come true!!!

Bridgett with new Dad – July 2024

I HATE separating siblings or attached pairs of kitties, but sometimes I just don’t have a choice. A couple weeks ago our little orange fluffy kitten, “Wendy” got adopted by a wonderful couple!  They already had a teenage fluffy orange male, so I understood why they decided on just one kitten. Bridgett was left behind and I was so sad for her.  The 2 kittens had a ball together.  I know eventually it will all be OK, but doesn’t help in “that” moment!

Wendy with new brother Freddy – Summer 2024

The owner of Wendy met me at the vet last week and I brought Bridgett.  It was the last vet visit for the kittens and they got fixed, final shots, microchipped, blood tested, etc. During the day, while I was waiting for the kittens to be ready to go, I got a call that Wendy’s new family decided that they wanted Bridgett too!  That just rarely happens and I was THRILLED!!!

I delivered the 2 kittens, together, to their new home after 5 days of recovery at FURR and now they are one big happy threesome! This is what makes the kitty world go round! Hooray for the sisters and new brother, Freddy!!!

June 24, 2024 This “purrfect” kitten won’t last long!  BRIDGETT is just the sweetest, cutest, funniest, purringest kitten ever!  She loves to race around and play, play, play!  As soon as she sees someone coming, she runs up to them for pets!  BRIDGETT loves to be held & rubbed, she’s a good eater & uses her litter box religiously! What more could you want???

BRIDGETT does have a little BFF named CONNOR!  They make an adorable pair, but can be adopted separately!

June 19, 2024 “WENDY” is doing great in her new home!  She has made friends with her look-a-like big teen brother!  It seems that she may have the upper hand most of the time, but obviously, her brother is fine with that!

What a beautiful sight after only a couple weeks! Soooo happy for this gorgeous little girl!!! Happy endings make rescue work all worthwhile!!!

    Bridgett (L) and Wendy (R)
    May 2024

May 22, 2024 FURR rescued 10 kittens born to a couple of outdoor female cats.  They were all in north Hampstead.

Little “WENDY” has been adopted by a great family!  They have a teenage long haired orange boy & WENDY will be an adorable look-a-like little sister! THANK YOU JEFF to you & your family for adopting a FURR rescued kitten!!!

The owner that called me PROMISED to get the females fixed.  I will follow up with her soon, especially since mama cats CAN get pregnant while nursing!!!

Anyway, I was able to get 4 kittens to a fellow rescue and 2 kittens to another fellow rescue and FURR kept 2 of the kittens. The owner kept 2 of the kittens.

BUT, “Wendy” and “Bridgett” are at FURR and just freakin’ ADORABLE! Watch their hilarious video! They are both orange tabby girls! Wendy is more of a solid fluff of orange and will be long haired! Bridgett is short haired with white points!

Both kittens are ready for adoption but will live at FURR until fixed (a few more weeks!). Come meet these happy, silly and playful sisters!  Better be first in line because they will go fast! Preferential consideration given to an adopter that wants BOTH!!!

May 6, 2024 FURR RESCUES FIVE KITTENS from a HORRIBLE hoarding situation where dozens of cats and kittens were located. A good rescue friend called me about it. Animal Control was involved but the rescue groups stepped in and took what they could.

Terry’s husband (shown above) drove over 2 hours ONE way today to pick up FIVE adorable little kittens!!! Thank you Mike for letting me stay home and care for all the FURR cats!

The 5 kittens are currently at the vet’s office getting checked out, shots and whatever else they need.

These little guys are 3 boys and 2 girls! Soooo LUCKY to be rescued!!!

May 21,2024 The 5 kittens FURR rescued from a Charlotte hoarding situation are at our vet’s, The Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital!

    Bumble Bee

April 13, 2024 My name is “BUMBLE BEE” and FURR rescued me from a terrible situation!  My BIG bright eyes look just like a bee and my colors too!  I am no bigger than a football and have quite a silly/sassy personality!  After I get to know someone who is sweet and gentle with me, I follow them all around meowing and sticking my tail straight up in the air!

I’m only between 1 and 2 years old and I love belly rubs.  They tell me that I’ve probably had a litter of kittens before!  I wonder what happened to them?  All I need is a little patience and love to become your little friend!  Come visit me soon.  I would probably prefer no dogs or loud children, but I do just fine with other cats.  If they bother me, I just give them a pop with my paw, but no claws!  Call me “Bee” for short!!!

  • Autumn is Adopted with Woody!

    Autumn is Adopted with Woody!

Oct. 20, 2025 Woody (right above) is adopted along with Autumn (left above)! Wildflower, Fern and Forrest are still available – please see their stories below.

A really nice couple with 2 sweet little girls came to FURR a couple of times to look at kitties. Over the weekend, they texted me that they had made a decision & wanted AUTUMN & WOODY!!!

I trimmed the 2 kitty’s nails, copied all the paperwork, packed up food & litter & delivered them today.  I cried!  I’m not so attached to Woody because he is a kitten (and everybody loves kittens) but Autumn was quite special to me.  I trapped her as a feral cat & we worked with her for over a year.  She turned out to be extremely grateful for her rescue!  The lady that fed her (and 2 other cats) left them abandoned & moved away leaving all 3 cats.

I trapped all 3.  Two of the cats went to another rescue and I kept Autumn (i was too full already).

Anyway, Autumn turned around & became a hilarious, fun-loving kitty with a BIG personality!  She loved to rub on everybody’s face & head.  I called her the “hair messer-upper” cat!

I will send more pictures later, but both Autumn & Woody settled right in and I’m so happy for both of them.  I wish them a wonderful life from here forward & I am grateful that I could be their beginning!

Autumn loving Elizabeth – FURR Volunteer – Aug 2025

April 15, 2025 Watch this adorable new Video of Autumn showing her very affectionate personality!

October 15, 2024 My name is AUTUMN!  I’m the funniest, silliest, shiniest, friendliest, most talkative cat you have ever seen!  I am TRULY ONE IN A MILLION!  I’m only about a year old and everyone at FURR loves me!!!  To say I’m a character is putting it mildly…I’m a nut!  I’m just a super “excited to be rescued” kitty!  Come visit & see for yourself.  I’ll tickle your funny bone!

June 20, 2024 AUTUMN is such an amazing kitty!  She continues to crack me up every day!  She is nonstop wiggling and nonstop chattering! She can’t be still for 5 minutes so I have to pet and rub her while she is head bunting me or slapping her tail against everything she walks by!

Autumn “reaching out” – Aug 2025

Autumn is getting very sleek and healthy! Her sunburned auburn fur is finally turning black.  She loves the kittens but would probably LOVE to be the only queen of the castle!

May 2024 – Autumn’s dental surgery was successful and she’s feeling much better – and happier! We do still need about $1,000 to cover her surgery, so please donate today!

April 12, 2024 Autumn is hilarious!  Watch her video! She is so excited to have attention that she can’t stop wiggling!  She is doing well, upper respiratory has cleared up from her antibiotics and eating her mushy food well!

Her dental is scheduled for mid May.  We are on the waiting list to get in sooner.  Her mouth is horrible with rotten teeth and painful red gums.

We need $2,000 to cover her expenses!!!  We’ve raised a small amount, but we have a long way to go. Please share with anyone you know that might want to help! Autumn is extremely grateful for the help!  Another special rescue cat that would have died left outside on her own.

Also, here (feature photo above) is a cute pic of her peeking out of her little house!

April 5, 2024 Here is Terry’s latest Urgent Rescue & Rehabilitation story about “Autumn”, named after the area where Terry found her. Please click our Donate button on the right today to help us with the veterinary bills (current and upcoming)!

Watch this amazing video of Terry giving Autumn much needed TLC and telling Autumn’s story with more details below.

I got a call from a lady in Wilmington, NC.  Her neighbor moved away and left outdoor feral cats to survive on their own.  It was a bad and sad situation. The cats were hanging out at this lady’s house (the lady that called me), using her yard as a litter box, getting on their cars and one of the cats scratched their dog and caused a large vet bill.  I believe she said her dog killed that one. So she and her husband wanted the cats gone ASAP.

I did the best I could calling and making contacts with Wilmington rescue groups with no luck.  No one could help.  It’s really not my territory since I’m overwhelmed in my own area. But, once you know of abandoned animals, it’s hard to erase it from your mind.

The lady thought there were 3 cats left.  I finally found a place for the cats to go (a long way away) and it was sheer luck that they had only a couple of openings. So I trapped the first 2 cats, took them to the vet (as the rescue requested) and then drove them out to the rescue with updated shots, flea/parasite treatment, etc.

The first 2 cats cost FURR $240.

I went the next day back to trap the final 3rd cat.  I got that one and dropped it off at the vet for the same vet work as the other 2.  All 3 of these cats were TNR from a prior year, so at least they were already fixed and ear tipped.

BUT, I got a call from the vet saying that this feral cat had a bad Upper Respiratory Infection and a totally infected mouth, gums and teeth! This cat needs at least 2 weeks of meds, syringe feeding before the dental surgery.

Autumn’s initial veterinary exam cost an additional $250.

Autumn’s dental bill will be an additional $1,500.

I put her in my garage so I could care for her.  It only took a couple hours to get her purring and making biscuits…unbelievable.  I think she has been starving and hurting for a while.  This poor kitty, in pain and hungry, had a soft blanket, soft food, sweet voices and rubs.  She totally transformed.

Please pray for this kitty.  The soonest dental appointment I could get for her at Sound Cat is a month away. If anyone has time to make phone calls to area vet’s to find one that works with rescues, could charge us less and get “Autumn” in earlier, I would be so grateful!!!

Thank you all so much for well wishes and prayers!  I’ve got my work cut out for me….
