February 2024 While Sardine is still healthy and happy living at FURR, over the past year Terry has realized that Sardine would be happier in FURR’s new feral colony rather than in an adopter’s home. Sardine does well interacting with Terry, but has not really allowed anyone else to interact with her like a adoptable pet. FURR’s new feral colony has everything Sardine needs to continue living a secure, healthy happy life including ongoing veterinary care, food, water, a heated/cooled shelter and indoor/outdoor areas to roam with other FURR friends.
January 2023 – More details on “Sardine” soon! This kitty is part of the amazing “Seafood Colony Rescue” that Terry has been working on since August 2022.

Terry’s industrial park rescue to save kitties from the dangers of upcoming industrial teardown! All donations are tax deductible.
I found a handful of cats at the seafood production colony … a couple females with KITTENS. I’ve been trapping every week & DESPERATELY NEED A FUNDRAISER FOR THESE CATS!!! I’ve trapped, fixed, etc., 4 so far & had to release all 4 after recovery. I’m nauseous over this as some are only 4-5 months old. I’m literally sick to my stomach letting them loose KNOWING this industrial place will be tearing down all the buildings in just a few months. There are probably about 6 more I need to trap & fix.
Even at a discount, each cat costs me $200 for:
Surgery
Rabies
FVRCP
Microchip
Ear tip
Cap Star Bravecto (like Revolution but lasts 3 months, but costs $50 bucks).

August 3, 2022 – A foster has offered to help! Check back soon for when thee two sweet kittens are ready for adoption!
July 2022 – These two adorable kittens (above and left) are 4 months old and need a temporary foster home so they have room to run, play and be played with! FURR will provide all the food, litter and any other supplies needed – we just need a volunteer to provide a home and the love!
They are both black, one with short hair and one with medium/long hair and they have been fixed, vaccinated, tested (negative for any health issues/diseases), microchipped and treated with Bravecto Plus*. They are precious and need socializing (and names LoL) as they are scared and wide-eyed at times, but they let Terry love and pet them with no problem!

December 2025 – I noticed the other week that SHRIMP had horrible breath! That can be a sign of mouth infection & bad teeth/gums. I looked in her mouth & could see she had dental problems. I got her in to Sound Cat for a dental. Luckily they had an opening and she went yesterday.
$1,300 later, most of her teeth had been pulled! She will surely feel better after healing up from the surgery. Poor thing!
SHRIMP’S brother, RED FISH, also had a dental, with most teeth pulled, about a month ago. I guess it’s genetic plus bad nutrition before being rescued.
These dental surgeries are necessary not only because of the infection from broken or bad teeth/gums, but also to relieve pain.

September 2025 – More great photos of Shrimp and Red Fish! They’ll be so happy to have a FURR-ever home. Learn more about their amazing story below.
May 19, 2025 RED FISH & SHRIMP have come back & are in Room 3. They are doing really well considering & need LOTS of gentle love. SHRIMP will hiss at everyone, but she is just scared & you can pet & love on her. RED FISH is super sweet but scared. These poor cats have been gone TWO years & now back at FURR. I love them both & will see to it that their future WILL be better!
April 23, 2023 A wonderful lady named Chris has been fostering Red Fish & Shrimp. I went by a couple days ago to put their Revolution on them, trim their nails & visit.
Chris has done an amazing job with these 2 cats! Considering their horrible beginning at the fish place, they are now loved, cared for and safe in a beautiful home! Chris has been great to take my advice and take it very slowly with them. They have graduated from the large bathroom to include the master bedroom!
These pictures show how great the kitties have progressed. I am so thankful to Chris for spending this valuable time with them!
Feb. 4, 2022 This tiny but colorful girl is longing for someone to love her! She came from a rough place when she was very young, but she has made huge progress and just needs a little reassurance and love! Read her story in the “Seafood Colony” article. She is so soft and loves to be petted and brushed! She is a gently girl and still shy but ready for the next step in her little life. She gets along great with other non-dominant cats that won’t pick on her. If you want a gorgeous, sweet and quiet little cat to love, she is your girl!

Each bold, pink headline below tells another story of the critical work Terry is doing – all by herself! – to help as many kitties as possible in the Hampstead-Wilmington-Topsail Beach communities in North Carolina!
I’ve trapped, fixed and recovered another 20 cats that were all feral adults at the seafood trucking place. One has Feline AIDS and I found a sanctuary and took her there. One has Feline Leukemia and I drove him to Charlotte where Kathleen, a long time FURR Volunteer who also works with an airline, who flew him to a sanctuary in Texas. I also drove 4 Feline Leukemia + to a sanctuary in Charlotte last weekend. Read this article about 3 kittens in a cage together need a temporary Foster while we’re awaiting approval to take them to their new home in Texas.
Found a colony of at least 40-50 cats
Oct. 24, 2021 – Have been trapping every night before it becomes hundreds – recently got 2 more kittens and 1 adult so far. Cannot even imagine how many cats & kittens would be there is I hadn’t stepped in! I have no help and need temporary foster homes to keep kittens alive. Also need funding. Have kept 7 kittens so far and fixed and release out a dozen. Still extremely urgent situation with more kittens in need! Do not want to fix and release at 3 months old but I am overwhelmed!
Also found more cats at the Topsail Island colony
Oct 24, 2021 – I got 4 transported to Virginia. Tragically, the remaining cats in this colony were killed by a coyote, even the caretaker lost on of her pets to the coyote. One female left and got her trapped and spayed only to learn from the spay/neuter clinic that she’s a nursing mom! So we had to release her and pray her kittens are alive!
Finally some good news – Helped another lady in Topsail Beach to trap 3 black feral kittens she had been feeding by the beach. Got hem fixed and thank God the lady’s vet took them in for adoption!
Foster Home(s) urgently needed
Oct 24, 2021 – My Realtor found 3 kittens about 5 weeks old and she is trying her best to foster them, but she has a child, dogs, puppy, busy life and no extra room to put them! So they are in a play pen about about to get out so desperate for a foster home for these three kittens!
Special Needs Kitties
Oct 24, 2021 – Got an FIV+/Felv+ cat into a sanctuary but have kept a bunch of these also …
Hampstead Colony needs continue
Oct 24, 2021 – In my prior Hampstead colony, all cats trapped, fixed and released but I still have 6 that need homes. Now one is sick that was released! Got to re-trap and get to the vet ASAP! Needs funds and help with all this trapping every night!
Urgent Hampstead injury reported
Oct. 25, 2021 – I got an emergency all from from my original Hampstead colony to catch one of the feral cats there that is injured. Once in a crate, I see he has a horrible problem – his teeth are completely rotten and black!! He must be in so much pain! He has ulcers all over his mouth and tongue. All I can do is pray the infection hasn’t affected his kidneys or liver, but blood work will determine that. So this will be at least $1,000 – Lord help me! He hasn’t been able to groom himself won’t eat at all. He looks about half the size he was when I trapped/neutered/released him. I’ll be rushing him to the vet in the morning.
Oct 26, 2021 Update – I just got the call from the vet. Terrible news. Kitty had masses on his liver (more than likely cancer), rotten teeth, had developed heart work disease, liver damage, weight loss and dehydration. He had IV fluids, antibiotics and pain meds, x-rays, ultra sound, etc., and he gave up just when everyone was working so hard to save him … He passed away. So sad. His caretake was heartbroken. Still, we need a fundraiser for his bill…
July 2, 2021 Gray Lady’s 2nd tiny kitten (Willy’s sibling) LUCY is adorable! She is very laid back, tamed up easily and she is a beautiful spotted gray tabby short haired. She is doing well and only a teensy shy. You can pick her up and handle her. She was touch and go for a few weeks, but she seems fine now and the vet says she is healthy. LUCY is going through her series of shots and vet visits. She tested negative and should be spayed within the next couple of weeks.

7-12-2021 Hoodie came to me from a bad part of town in Wilmington called “the Hood”. She was skinny, alone and going door to door asking for food! Someone picked her up and took her inside, but could not keep her. FURR was called and we took Hoodie. This was a great rescue because Hoodie was extremely grateful and meow’d and purrrrr’d all the time in gratitude! Hoodie was extremely social right from the beginning and the only thing that I can figure is that she was dumped. Hoodie became a favorite around FURR and loved to stand up on her hind legs asking to be picked up! She was super funny and seemed to love everyone: dogs, people and cats! There was no doubt that this kitten wouldn’t last long before being adopted. Again, just like Sake, Hoodie went to good friends of mine in Charlotte that had 2 other FURR cats! Christine and Mike Wilkins already had adopted from FURR in the past and took my word for it that Hoodie would be a great new addition for their family. Hoodie was transported to her new home and has been doing great! Hoodie is loving playing with the Wilkins little girl and being free to run around the house with her new family! I also miss Hoodie every day! She was such an amazing little kitty, but all has ended as it should be!
Original story: Absolutely the BEST kitten ever, ever, ever!!! LOVES everybody cats & even our dog! This little girl came from the “hood” in a bad, bad place going door to door looking for FOOD ! A good Samaritan found her & took her inside to keep her safe. She then came to us @ FURR & has been completely vetted, microchipped, etc., and is ready to go her new SAFE lifelong home. I just LOVE this kitten & she is IN YOUR FACE looking for affection! She is AMAZING & new potential owners will be the luckiest folks on earth!!!

7-12-21 SAKE was adopted by my good friend, Bobbi Marr, in Monroe, NC. Bobbi has adopted SEVERAL FURR cats in the past and had recently lost one of her FURR cats to cancer. It was a very sad passing, but Bobbi wanted to offer a new life to another rescued kitty. Bobbi came and stayed with me one weekend and she fell in love with SAKE. SAKE came to me from Charlotte extremely feral, scared and injured. She had to have 2 surgeries to correct her prolapsed rectum, but healed up beautifully. SAKE slowly, but surely, learned how things work at FURR! She was going to be petted and loved on whether she wanted it or not! She would also learn to cohabitate with all the other rescued kitties and learn that socialization was a fun thing. SAKE became ready for adoption after several months of rehab at FURR and everyone just fell in love with her…….including Bobbi! Bobbi took SAKE home and it was pretty much an instant success. Bobbi has a lot of experience in introducing cats, being patient with new or frightened cats and reading the cat’s behavior to know when ready to the next step. SAKE just loves Bobbi, sleeps with her and plays with all the other kitties. Bobbi tells me how they play and chase each other around the house. It is just music to my ears that this is such a great home for SAKE. She is so beautiful and Bobbi is the lucky one that gets to look at her and feel her soft fur every day! I miss SAKE every day!
Original Story: December of 2020 I received a desperate call from a well-known cat lady named Marilyn. She said that someone had trapped a cat and had brought it to her. The cat was extremely feral and was living behind a Japanese restaurant in Charlotte. Marilyn took the cat in and realized that it had some medical issues. It had a prolapsed rectum! Poor skinny, scared, feral kitty was living a rough life outside AND with a horrible medical issue!
Sake in the trap – Dec 2020
Marilyn got the cat to the vet and they managed to get the rectum back in place, but the kitty, “SAKE”, needed rest, meds, etc……but, Marilyn had trouble handling the cat and she asked me to please take it and work with it. I agreed, but she had trouble trying to get SAKE into a carrier. She had SAKE in her bathroom. Finally SAKE got into the carrier and the trapper drove from Charlotte to bring SAKE to me. I met him about an hour outside of Wilmington and picked her up.
The trapper of the cat was a really nice man and he has stayed in touch with me about SAKE. He told me that he had been the one to trap SAKE, taken her to the vet to get her spayed & to fix her prolapse, but when he went to pick her up after her surgery, she ESCAPED outside!!! She had just had surgery! After two weeks of trying, he was able to trap her again, thank goodness, but he delivered her to Marilyn. Now, she is probably really traumatized. SO, now I have SAKE. I was very intrigued with this little kitty. She was DROP DEAD GORGEOUS and about a year old. BUT, she was very scared & hissed like crazy! All you had to do was look her way, and she would spit on and hiss at you!
I got SAKE home and I just sort of experimented with her. When I picked her up and held her really snug up against my chest, she kind of settled in. She took a deep breath, hissed a couple of times, but then she was ok with it. I temporarily put her in a cage so that I could handle her often. She warmed up quickly to my touch, my feeding her and to being brushed.
However, during the stress of moving AGAIN to a new place, the rectum prolapsed again! YIKES! I had only had her a few days when this happened again.
I had to rush her to the emergency vet. They had to do surgery this time, put the rectum back in place, stitch her up and put her on some heavy duty antibiotics, etc. She came back to FURR the next day and I had to care for her. She healed up beautifully this time and has had no problems since her 2 week recovery.
SAKE is now running around with all the other cats at FURR. She is very playful and lets me handle her with no problems! She is really sweet and grateful. She purrrrrrs now and rolls around when I am petting her! She really has taken to me, and gets along with the other cats fine, but would probably do just fine also as an only kitty.
SAKE is completely healthy now. She is still shy when meeting new people, but it doesn’t take her long to trust them. All it takes is a little time and patience. She will be a wonderful cat for someone that can be quiet around her and give her time to adjust. She actually looks like a miniature Ragdoll kitty. Her eyes are ridiculously BLUE and her long hair is silky soft. Her coloring is just gorgeous. SAKE will always be a tiny kitty. I doubt she will ever weight must more than 6 or 7 pounds. She is AMAZING and I have just loved working with her!!!
