December 19, 2024 Update on Swirl & Connor! Kittens have been doing great even after only one day! They are playing, sleeping with Penny and keeping her entertained!
Penny laughed about the cats shredding her newspaper this morning! I’m glad she found it humorous and I’m sure Swirls & Connor (now “Bingo”) enjoyed it!
Here are some pictures in their new home! Makes my heart so happy!!!

Connor and Swirls at home with their new Mom 12-16-2024
December 16, 2024 CONNOR & SWIRLhave arrived in their new home! HAPPY BUT SAD NEWS today saying goodbye to two of the best rescue kitties we’ve ever had!!!
Both left today with their new & wonderful mom, Penny, and made their way to their new VA home! Watch them happily explore!
Wow, I’m really gonna miss those cute kitties and their unbelievable kind nature. We don’t get personalities like that every day. Although all of our cats are amazing in their own ways, these two were just that cream of the crop!
Thanks to Deb & Rick for helping match up this trio (Deb is Penny’s sister) and I look forward to getting updates.
Penny did text me and they arrived safe and sound. She sent me a very short video of the cats chasing each other only moments after being let out of their carriers!!!
Happy tears coming down my face. – Terry
November 5, 2024 CONNOR & SWIRL are being adopted TOGETHER! My heart is so happy, but I will miss those purrrrr motors & sweet faces so much! They will be traveling to VA sometime in Dec. I don’t usually adopt out of town, but this lady is the sister of one of our HUGE supporters and adopters! I trust her explicitly & could not be more excited! I will send pictures later with their new mom!
October 17, 2024 Updated photo (above) of the MOST AMAZING KITTEN IN THE WORLD! Soft, sweet, loves everybody and super cudley! READY FOR ADOPTION!

August 8, 2024 New ADORABLE kitten at FURR with unique “swirl” markings on her fur! Isn’t she a beauty!
It is a FELONY to discard an animal like trash and this would be a 2 count offense. Thank GOD someone came along in the late afternoon that saw them!
After this poor little female kitten was abandoned at a scrap yard in ONE carrier with another adult cat, she is lucky to be alive. The extreme heat was enough to kill them both.
Swirl sitting pretty Aug 8, 2024
The adult cat has been rescued by another group and the kitten came to FURR.
She is the sweetest thing and meows or purrs all the time. She is on her way to getting healthy and gaining weight. She will make a beautiful addition to anyone’s home & she seems to get along fine with all the other FURR kittens!
Meet all FURR kitties available for adoption on PetFinder!

March 30, 2025 It is impossible to describe the sadness and great sense of loss that both Gordon’s loving family and the entire FURR family feels at our loss of Gordon far, far too soon. There is some comfort in knowing he had all love in the world and comforts of home for the last chapter of his amazing life. We all understand what a truly amazing kitty he was given all he endured before Terry rescued him and helped him achieve the best life he so richly deserved. His amazing rescue & story is below. He will always be remembered and loved by all who had the good fortune to know him.
March 29, 2025 – 1:57 pmUpdate on GORDON is also very sad and unbelievable. Only a few days ago, GORDON was loving his life and mom, and now he is fighting for his life. He was put on a pain medicine for an eye infection and the medicine has taken a toll on his poor body and kidneys. He is in the best hands possible with Dr. Gervais & Dr. Rockwell at Sound Cat, but his prognosis is questionable. We are giving him through the weekend to see if he can pull through it or not. Please PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for DICEY & KAREN and for GORDON & HEATHER.
I know God hears us all. Thank u all so much!
Terry
March 27, 2025 – 10:15 pmUPDATE ON GORDON: GORDON was transferred to Sound Cat late this afternoon. His numbers are not great. He is on fluids and on a heating pad since his body temp had dropped. We won’t know if he can pull through this until the morning. He’s obviously a fighter & certainly has overcome major challenges such as starvation, broken jaw, broken hip & bones, injured ear half gone, rotten teeth, etc. This kitty deserves a long easy life of love & comfort. PRAYING !!!
TERRY
March 27, 2025 – 4:30 pm – URGENT GENT PRAYERS NEEDED!!! GORDON is being rushed to ER with blood coming from his mouth, lethargy, not eating and really sick. Came on suddenly and local vet thinks he is sepsis. Cannot imagine how in the world he got sick and his owner, Heather, is just beside herself. She said just a few days ago, he was fine and very happy and loving. All of us are holding our breaths and saying prayers for this amazing kitty that has already been through so much…

Gordon with new Family – Dec 2024
December 19, 2024 I can finally write this update without crying my eyes out! GORDON has settled in his new home beautifully! Of course I could never imagine him happy, in any way, without his mom (me!), but I am glad to be wrong!
GORDON’S new Mom & Dad are telling me how wonderful he is doing! Gordon has met the dog and other cat with no problems. He is wandering around the house or snuggling with his new family!
I am missing this beautiful cat every day and couldn’t have asked for a better placement for him.
This torn up, beat up, skinny, dirty feral cat was soon to die when rescued by FURR, and now he is in LA LA LAND!
Guys, this is what it is truly all about!!! Happy endings!!!
Terry
Gordon’s 10-19-24 Video
November, 5, 2024 An amazing couple, that I approved to come and meet him, has decided that GORDON must join their family! This couple lives in Leland, NC and they have 1 cat-friendly rescued dog & 3 other cats! GORDON took to them very quickly. After getting over getting my feelings hurt (I am his mama!!!) I realized that GORDON “is” ready to move on to a “furrever” home and somehow I’ve got to say goodbye….
It’s possible that he will be leaving this Friday.
I want to thank all the people who have helped this cat survive an unbelievable journey. Your can read Gordon’s amazing rescue & rehab story in the 11 prior dated postings below on this page.
Chris – who called me about this broken down cat in his yard. Here is what he wrote to me:
Gordon at Rescue – June 2023
“Hello,
There is a feral cat that’s been hanging around my home lately. The cat appears to be in poor health. I see it drooling, head appears to be shaking some. I have been putting out food and water. I wanted to reach out for some assistance as I think it’s health is deteriorating. Thank you
Chris”
Also, see the picture on the right he sent me.
Thank you to Sound Cat staff & Dr. Rockwell for putting this cat back together! Thank you to the FURR volunteers that helped me care for him all this time & I have been “furrever” changed by having Gordon in my life.
Terry
October 19, 2023 Update #11Watch his new video from TODAY showing our sweet boy Gordon, who is ready for adoption so he can give LOTS of LOVE to his “FURR-ever” family!
This is update #11 because poor Gordon has had a very long rescue and rehabilitation journey, as the prior 10 updates below describe. Terry Schultz, our President, pours her love and resources into these amazing kitties even in the early days after rescue when the poor kitty’s veterinary and behavioral needs are great. Gordon is feelin’ good and thankful for Terry’s help and for everyone who supports FURR!
Gordon – Jan 2024
January 13, 2024 Update #10 GORDON is making HUGE progress with me. Watch his latest video! He is always out & about in his room now. He gets up on the cat trees & seems to be getting along well. I clipped his nails yesterday, for the very first time, and he was wiggly, but pretty good.
He has come a long long way from a ferocious injured feral cat to a nearly tame cat. He has a broken hip, still, but it has already set and he does not seem restricted by it. We have decided not to do surgery on his hip.
His broken jaw was wired together, but as you know, it did not mend totally. We took off the wire after 2 months and he seems to be doing ok….go figure! His jaw drops down on one side and he drools out of that side of his mouth when he eats.
All in all, he is doing great! I am able to pick him up, love on him, brush him and scratch him. He still swats at me occasionally just to remind me that he is in control and a hiss here and there, but I just ignore him! I tell him he is a beautiful and lucky boy!
Gordon purring as Terry pets him – Oct 2023
October 12, 2023 Update #9 Really wonderful news from today when GORDON actually purred while I was petting him! Here’s a new video of Terry petting him while he’s purring (although it’s not audible in the video)! He has a very faint purr for such a big boy, but just feeling that vibration in his body and hearing that faint sound made me the happiest person ever!
GORDON went for his final vet visit and was released! His broken jaw is as healed as it will ever be, but despite it not healing like we had hoped, it is more stable than it was. He is eating just fine and has gained a couple of pounds! Many thanks to Dr. Rockwell who cared for him during this traumatic situation. She had to make some tough decisions and I am so thankful for her expertise!
GORDON went through a wired-together jaw, then pulling all his teeth except 2, and possible hip surgery after that. However, I have observed him getting around his room just fine and climbing in and out of the litter box with no problem. We have decided that he is done with surgeries! His broken hip has probably set itself in place by now and he is doing well.
The goal for GORDON’S future is somewhat up in the air. I would absolutely LOVE to see him adopted into a loving home and to someone who can sympathize with his story, but GORDON is still quite timid, still hisses at people and has a long way to go.
I totally intend to give him every opportunity to continue improving his confidence and trust in people. Right now, most of the volunteers pet him a little bit and I work with him every day.
Please pray for GORDON as he stays on his journey to a beautiful life!
August 31, 2023 Update #8Watch this video of Terry caring for Gordon and describing his recovery and very sweet demeanor!
Gordon cam through his full mouth extraction dental very well! All of his teeth were removed except one bottom canine, which was in good shape, and the other bottom canine. The 2nd bottom canine is broken, but Dr. Rockwell was worried about removing it. Some of the bone around the tooth might actually be helping to hold what is left of his jaw together!
He is tolerating my nursing care very well considering all he has been through. He surely would be dead by now just from infection alone if FURR had not rescued him!
Thanks AGAIN to CHRIS for alerting me to this poor cat’s condition!
Dental alone was over $1,000. Please spread the word for tax-deductible HELP for Gordon!
August 24, 2023 Update #7 A few days ago, Gordon stopped eating. I also noticed some blood on his front paws and he would become very agitated if I tried to examine him. I called Dr. Rockwell and she graciously agreed to work him in on an already busy day.
After sedating Gordon, he was examined and x-rayed. It appeared that the wire holding his broken lower jaw together had not worked. Unfortunately, the injury must have been much older than we thought and his jaw remained in two pieces despite the great effort of Dr. Rockwell and Dr. Gervais. At this point, Dr. Rockwell could see that the wire was bothering him (he has had it for 2 months) and it needed to be removed.
After removing the wire, Gordon’s teeth were still horrible and infected, so he is scheduled for his dental surgery next Thursday, Aug. 31. I hope and pray that Gordon can survive with TWO bottom jaws. He did eat his dinner of canned food, so that’s hopeful. He still has a long way to go, but he has pain meds and antibiotics on board to help.
I’m sure that between this 3 hour appt and his dental surgery next Tuesday, that FURR will NOT have enough money. Please spread the word, forward this email and help raise support for this poor kitty!
I long for the day that the worn, sad look in his blue eyes turns brighter.
July 29, 2023 Update #6 GORDON went for his 2 month checkup this week. Unfortunately, his poor little face was swollen when he got his broken jaw wired together. Over the last 2 months, the infection improved and swelling went down (which is good), but the wires loosened up. His jaw, therefore, was not held quite as stable as needed.
The wires had to be tightened up again and he was sent back to FURR to wait ANOTHER month! I was so sad for him and so disappointed he could not be freed of his pain. He is still on pain meds, antibiotics and prebiotic.
I love and pet him every chance I get and try to tell him how special he is. His recovery expenses include:
His latest Vet visit to assess the healing of his jaw was $200.
His next visit will be another $200.
Then he will have dental surgery for broken teeth ($800-$1,000)
Finally, the fractured hip surgery ($800???)
Please continue to help us fundraise for his continued care. Thank you all so much!
June 29, 2023 Update #5 Gordan has his one month checkup at Sound Cat Clinicand all is well! Watch this videoto hear more! He is healing nicely, eating all his food (medicines and all) and just being a wonderful patient!
Someone will be very lucky to Adopt this miracle cat because he is living proof that there CAN be life after DEATH! This cat should have been dead with all that had happened to him.
GORDON goes back in another month to have the wires removed from his jaw. Then, shortly after that, he will get his full mouth extraction to remove all of his broken & assessed teeth.
THEN, after that, we will need surgery on his fractured hip.
Pleeeeease remember that each checkup is just under $100 and we really need $$$ for his upcoming dental surgery!!!
Terry

June 21, 2023 Update #4Watch this touching videofor Terry’s latest update on Gordon – he’s a good patient, eating as well as he can given the wires in his mouth and getting more handsome by the day!
June 10, 2023 Update #3 Terry has a great report for us now that Gordon is back at FURR!
I picked up GORDON late yesterday afternoon. He is doing well after surgery. I set up a large kennel for him at FURR so I could keep a close watch on him. GORDON is on 4 different meds and believe it or not, he is eating on his own with all his meds mixed in! HOORAY! He is getting plenty of clean water, mushy food mixed in with his meds twice a day and is using his litter box like a champ.
I have been talking to him, stroking his head and rubbing his back with no resistance.
The bill (although nothing to sneeze at) was much less than I anticipated at around $900. Any money we get donated over that amount will be used for his next 2 surgeries. In a couple of months, after his jaw has healed, GORDON will need dental surgery to remove damaged/decaying teeth, and “possibly” also surgery on his fractured hip. Thanks so much to all the generous donors who have raised $785 so far on Gordon’s Go Fund Me page, not counting the anonymous donor matching gifts up to $500. Given these additional surgeries ahead, please continue to help us support Gordon and raise awareness of his amazing rescue and rehabilitation story!
THANK YOU, CHRIS, FOR CALLING ME ABOUT THIS SUFFERING CAT!
THANK YOU, DR. ROCKWELL & DR. GERVAIS, FOR THEIR HEALING HANDS!!!
This kitty should be dead….but instead, he has been given a chance to live again!
June 10, 2023 Update #2 Good news! Gordon is resting comfortably at the vet’s office this weekend after successful surgery late yesterday, which required 2 wonderful Vets from Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Rockwell and Dr. Gervais, to wire his jaw back together after it was badly broken in 3 places. During this weekend at the Vet’s, Gordon is being watched closely and of course getting plenty of pain medication and antibiotics. Now that we know more about the extent of his jaw injuries, which was broken completely in half from front to back, Terry says today that she does not know how this kitty survived because of how painful it must of been to eat, even soft wet food.
The Vets also reported to Terry that his entire mouth was badly infected due to abscessed teeth and the jaw injury. The Vets also shaved his tail (while sedated) because it was completely matted and very dirty since poor Gordon has been unable to clean himself due to his jaw injuries. Terry says his fur-less tail makes him look a bit like a rat (LoL!), but even just that grooming treatment probably feels like a huge relief to Gordon!
Going forward, the Vets explain that Gordon’s recovery is a multi-step process. This kitty needs 8 weeks with the wires in his jaw, then 8 more weeks for the jaw to completely heal. After that, he’ll require dental surgery to remove bad teeth, which cannot be done now due to the fragility of his jaw. Eventually he’ll also need hip surgery.
We continue to be very grateful to Chris, who found Gordon and reached out to FURR, to Terry getting him trapped and to the vet, to everyone at Sound Cat for their wonderful, emergency care and of course to everyone who has generously donated $555 so far on Gordon’s Go Fund Me page, including an anonymous donor matching gifts up to $500! Terry says Gordon has gone along with all this care pretty well, considering he’s still feral. He’s certainly come a long way in just a few days. It truly takes a village! Please continue to help spread the word and encourage others to donate as well!
June 9, 2023 Update #1 Here are 2 photos after his first bath (while sedated!) and lo and behold he is a “flame point” – see the darker fur on his ears? Terry reports that the vet said that his bath water was black from all the fleas and red from the blood from the fleas biting him! Poor baby, but better already! Awaiting another update from Terry after his surgery soon, if the Vet cannot do it today.
Original Story
Gordon at Rescue – June 2023
June 8, 2023 Meet Gordon, FURR’s new “poster child”. This poor kitty is a perfect example of why Terry founded FURR many years ago and why she fights so hard day (and night!) for all the kitties who suffer so much when they’re left on their own!
Gordon’s Story … So far
A kind, animal loving man named Chris recently noticed a feral cat near his home who appeared to be in really rough shape. Chris called FURR and Terry advised him to begin giving the kitty food and water and soon the kitty came around regularly. A good start, but you can see in the photo above that Chris had good reason to be concerned this kitty had many more needs besides food and water. Even now, though, we can see this kitty is a “diamond in the rough” with buff furr and blue eyes!
Terry worked with Chris to trap the kitty and Terry took him to our Vet, Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital in Wilmington, NC who diagnosed Gordon these medical issues – imagine Gordon’s pain and suffering for who knows how long!:
Medical Issues:
Completely inundated with fleas and very anemic as a result Jaw broken in 3 places in addition to rotten and abscessed teeth Severe ear infection Bloodwork: FIV Positive (still adoptable!) and No Feline Leukemia (yeah!) Fractured hip – old injury – approach/treatment TBD
Treatments given to date while sedated: De-flea-ed, deworm-ed and neutered Treated for Anemia Surgery very soon to wire his jaw together Pain and antibiotic injections that last a few days Microchipped Bathed, as he was unable to clean himself due to his broken jaw and severe dental issues
What we need: Beyond Chris’s generous donation, we need $1,500 more for these treatments and planned jaw surgery. Please donate via the Donate button on the right, or from Gordon’s Go Fund Me page Posting to FURR’s Facebook pageto help raise awareness of the need for funds for Gordon’s treatments Chris has already has volunteered to foster Gordon during his recovery

May 31, 2024 I’m so happy to announce another adoption!!! “MONA” kitty was rescued by FURR & was adopted before we even advertised her! I wish they all would get adopted that fast!
Kristy called to tell me about cats living in Rocky Point at a gas station. She investigated & found out the convenient store clerks were feeding them. Kristy alerted me to the fact that there were at least 5 cats there. Kristy and I started to try to save them. I was able to trap 2 of the teenagers and another rescue group had agreed to take them.
Then we rescued a large adult cat that had been abandoned by a nearby business. Kristy managed to get him in a carrier and we had another rescue take him.
That left 3 cats with no where to go. I decided to take one cat (being already overloaded with cats) and Kristy had befriended “MONA” and was able to get her into a carrier.
After getting her fixed, shots, etc., she came to FURR & tamed up beautifully!
It didn’t take any time and our own volunteer, Laura, fell in love with MONA!
Laura adopted MONA and added her to her current family: husband, 2 rescued dogs, Daddy Batts (FURR cat!), Coral (FURR cat), and 2 other kitties!
All is going great & here are some wonderful pictures!
There are still 2 cats living at the convenience store. Both are BLACK! One is younger & probably MONA’s sibling or possible kitten. He’s a boy and needs RESCUE!!!
The other kitty already has an ear tip, but needs help with an injured eye. This one is also earning Kristy’s trust as she is making sure they have daily food & water!
THANK U LAURA for giving another rescued cat a home!!!

February 8, 2024 NARAYANA is SORELY missed, but she is doing great and adjusting faster than expected!!
Narayana and a new friend Feb 2024
Normally, I would keep a new kitty contained for at least a week or so in a new environment. NARAYANA, on the other hand, told Rick & Deb, to let her our her “safe room” on only day 2! She wanted to explore! She hid under the bed, but not for long, and she hopped up on top of the bed to get a better view!
She is hanging out with the other kitties and I’m sure everyone is questioning this new experience! NARAYANA is eating, using her litter box and, well to be honest, advancing much quicker than I anticipated. I think NARAYANA has Deb wrapped around her little paw! She is talking a lot and expressing her thoughts!
What a blessing for NARAYANA, her new family and all of us here at FURR.
TERRY >^,,^<
Narayana with new Dad Rick Feb 2024
February 4, 2024 NARAYANA ADOPTED!!! Yesterday was a wonderful day! NARAYANA was adopted (again!) and delivered to her new “FURRever” home! This poor kitty, that was adopted TWO years ago and recently discarded, now has won the lottery!
Rick & Deb adopted this beautiful girl and I am so happy!!! NARAYANA is the sweetest kitty ever and all she has ever asked for is rubs and scratches! She purrs like crazy and she is so soft – how could anyone not fall in love with her?
Rescued two years ago by FURR, NARAYANA had a terrible mouth infection with red flaming gums and horrible teeth. She was thin and homeless. FURR saved her, paid for her dental surgery and when she was healthy found her a home.
Unfortunately, the adopters were moving to Norway and could not take her with them. Long story short, FURR took her in for the 2nd time. I felt so sorry for NARAYANA being moved again, but she handled it well & the FURR volunteers fell in love with her again.
Now NARAYANA has truly hit the jackpot with her new family, Rick and Deb! There are 5 other lucky felines in the household including one NARAYANA look-alike! I’m so happy to learn that she is adjusting as well as could be expected after just 2 days. She is eating, using the litter box and she even jumped up on the bed beside Rick!
We will all miss NARAYANA at FURR, but this is what we dream of! Rescuing homeless, abandoned or injured kitties is our mission. My tears for NARAYANA are happy ones! Here is Rick holding NARAYANA!

Narayana with Terry Jan 2024
January 13, 2024 Narayana returned to FURR! This AMAZING girl rescued and adopted out by FURR two years ago! She is now back at FURR and sadly displaced from her home! The owners are moving overseas and cannot take her with them! NARAYANA is just a big purr box! She LOVES to be rubbed, brushed, held and doted on! She had bad teeth and gums when rescued and FURR paid to remove all her teeth! She eats just fine without teeth and is she is small and round like a little football! She LOVES treats and has no trouble eating those! If you are looking for a purring cuddle baby, NARAYANA might be for you! She’s a doll and only about 5-6 yrs young!
April 2022 – Narayana is adopted!
Sept 23, 2020: Meet Narayana inher video! (she is shown above and there is more on her incredible story below). I purchased a chicken coop for her who is going back to her caretaker’s house. This is a cage with a house in it where she can get re-established for a couple of weeks before letting her out. I pray for her! She has NO TEETH, but she does have her claws and now a new safe house to live in. All I can do is hope that she will survive and be ok!!! I will miss her. We have been through a lot with all that mouth surgery!
I also rescued FIVE kittens fixed last weekand had to set up recovery cages for all of those for a week. That did take a chunk of money out of our account, but they are all READY for adoption now!
Narayana after dental surgery – Aug 2020
Sept 3, 2020: NARAYANA had her FULL MOUTH extraction last week and she did great! We never did raise enough money to cover the $900 surgery, so we still NEED to get any donations at this time to help cover her bills! NARAYANA has been on pain medicine and antibiotics for a week. She has been eating soft food just fine and actually has begun to eat some hard food. She seems happy and purrs a lot, so I know she is out of pain now a nd a LOT more healthy! I hope this gives her a lot longer life to live. The surgeon showed me her xrays and EVERY SINGLE TOOTH was either infected, abscessed or broken off! For only being about 5 years young, she has really been through it.
This severe stomatitis and gingivitis is caused by a number of factors, but mostly environment, poor nutrition & genetics. I am so happy that I finally caught this kitty and fixed her up!
Much progress has been made but after the rescues noted above we urgently needs funds to continue! Please click the Donate button to the right to help us care for kitties in need!
August 18, 2020 I was able to trap a kitty from the Hampstead colony that has been alluding me for a few weeks. FINALLY I trapped this little cat and took her to the S/N clinic for shots, spay surgery, testing, etc.
After I got her home, I began watching her in her recovery cage. Surprisingly, this feral cat became quite happy being safe in the cage and getting food constantly, but……….I noticed that she stuck out her tongue a lot and licked her lips a lot. These are signs of something wrong with her mouth. After a couple of days, I felt comfortable taking a closer look and I was able to open her mouth. To my HORROR, her breath about knocked me over and her teeth were HORRIBLE & mouth is infected!!!
The S/N clinic said she was probably a little older than most of the other colony cats and they put her age around 5 years old; however, they failed to even look in her mouth to see that she was in horrible pain, infection & rotten teeth……..probably due to a horrible diet, living outside for 5 years and never having any vet work done whatsoever. It was so sad to see her like this!
I scheduled another vet visit for her. Her name is “NARAYANA” and she is so sweet! She doesn’t deserve to live like this! Our vet agreed that her mouth was so horrible, that she needed a FULL MOUTH EXTRACTION………that means every single tooth (that is left in her mouth) must be pulled.
Right now the vet is booked out for TWO weeks! I am really sad for her, but have her on some pain medicine every day to help her eat. I have been making her a soupy mixture of wet food and she is just loving that! This is a really nice kitty and I will put her up for adoption after healing from her surgery.
July 9, 2020 I have trapped 16 cats from the Hampstead Colony so far. They have all been fixed, given shots, treated for fleas & worms, recovered at my house and released back. The man that owns the building where they live outside IS feeding them and giving fresh water. All of these cats are feral. I have kept TWO of the adults: The gray mama cat that was pregnant (she is now tame & has 7 kittens in my guest room), GRIGIO (who is now tame and was hurt horribly from being hit by a car) and 5 more kittens that I have plus 1 more kitten that I got another rescue in Charlotte to take. She was too young to just be alone and when I grabbed her, as she ran by me, it several months ago. I didn’t have any other kittens then.
The Pender Co Animal Control has done some of these cats for free, except that I have to pay for the blood testing and deworming. Now the free clinic is closed and I am having to go to the Cape Fear Spay Neuter Clinic which charges from $85 – $120 per cat. I have three more cats at the colony to trap and fix. I have the mama cat and her 7 babies plus the other 5 babies that all need to be fixed & 3 sets of shots.
March 8, 2020 The TNR project in Hampstead that I am working on is going right along pretty well. I have trapped eight cats now, out of the 25, and had them fixed, shots, dewormed, etc., and released.
They have been pretty sick, with upper respiratory infections, so I have given them antibiotic shots and I hold them until they are feeling better. One of the cats had horrible bite wounds on his tail…….poor thing! He is recovering longer also until his tail has a chance to heal up. Sending some pictures for you to see.
I hate releasing them back outside. All of them are hissing, spitting and growling at me when I trap them, and after a week of recovery & lots of good food, they just love me to pet and scratch them!
At least they are getting fed daily by a caretaker and they do have pretty good shelter behind this office complex. Sad for me, though, because I get so attached to each one of them.
Tabby/White Fem.,Black Fem.,Russian Blue Two Gray Tabbys
February 13, 2020 It has been a whirlwind here! As soon as I moved here I discovered a colony of about 25 cats behind an office building very close to my house. NONE of the cats were fixed and many of them looked sick.
I found out that the Pender County Animal Control has a wonderful program here to fix feral cats for free! I only have to pay for any extras that I need. I have trapped, fixed and released 2 cats so far. They were both female, so I recovered them for a week in my garage. I have NO lodge!!!
They were fairly healthy and I felt ok about releasing them back. There is someone who feeds them, makes them shelters and gives them fresh water every day. That is the best I can do for them at this point is to just get them fixed, shots, Revolution, etc., and set them free. I would give anything if I could have than sanctuary that I always wanted!
Here are the 2 kitties that I TNR’d successfully. Also, here is a picture of the three cats I captured tonight and will be taking in tomorrow. That is only 5 so far, but that’s a start and 20+ cats to go!!! I have a bad feeling that the Russian Blue Mix kitty is blind.
Please remember FURR and pass along that I am still working hard to save as many cats as I can! FURR still needs LOTS of help……..financially & your prayers.

July 26, 2024 Sometimes FURR wishes do come true!!!
Bridgett with new Dad – July 2024
I HATE separating siblings or attached pairs of kitties, but sometimes I just don’t have a choice. A couple weeks ago our little orange fluffy kitten, “Wendy” got adopted by a wonderful couple! They already had a teenage fluffy orange male, so I understood why they decided on just one kitten. Bridgett was left behind and I was so sad for her. The 2 kittens had a ball together. I know eventually it will all be OK, but doesn’t help in “that” moment!
Wendy with new brother Freddy – Summer 2024
The owner of Wendy met me at the vet last week and I brought Bridgett. It was the last vet visit for the kittens and they got fixed, final shots, microchipped, blood tested, etc. During the day, while I was waiting for the kittens to be ready to go, I got a call that Wendy’s new family decided that they wanted Bridgett too! That just rarely happens and I was THRILLED!!!
I delivered the 2 kittens, together, to their new home after 5 days of recovery at FURR and now they are one big happy threesome! This is what makes the kitty world go round! Hooray for the sisters and new brother, Freddy!!!
June 24, 2024 This “purrfect” kitten won’t last long! BRIDGETT is just the sweetest, cutest, funniest, purringest kitten ever! She loves to race around and play, play, play! As soon as she sees someone coming, she runs up to them for pets! BRIDGETT loves to be held & rubbed, she’s a good eater & uses her litter box religiously! What more could you want???
BRIDGETT does have a little BFF named CONNOR! They make an adorable pair, but can be adopted separately!

Wendy (front) & new teen brotherWendy & new Dad May 2024
June 19, 2024“WENDY” is doing great in her new home! She has made friends with her look-a-like big teen brother! It seems that she may have the upper hand most of the time, but obviously, her brother is fine with that!
What a beautiful sight after only a couple weeks! Soooo happy for this gorgeous little girl!!! Happy endings make rescue work all worthwhile!!!
Bridgett (L) and Wendy (R) May 2024
May 22, 2024 FURR rescued 10 kittens born to a couple of outdoor female cats. They were all in north Hampstead.
Little “WENDY” has been adopted by a great family! They have a teenage long haired orange boy & WENDY will be an adorable look-a-like little sister! THANK YOU JEFF to you & your family for adopting a FURR rescued kitten!!!
The owner that called me PROMISED to get the females fixed. I will follow up with her soon, especially since mama cats CAN get pregnant while nursing!!!
Anyway, I was able to get 4 kittens to a fellow rescue and 2 kittens to another fellow rescue and FURR kept 2 of the kittens. The owner kept 2 of the kittens.
BUT, “Wendy” and “Bridgett” are at FURR and just freakin’ ADORABLE! Watch their hilarious video! They are both orange tabby girls! Wendy is more of a solid fluff of orange and will be long haired! Bridgett is short haired with white points!
Both kittens are ready for adoption but will live at FURR until fixed (a few more weeks!). Come meet these happy, silly and playful sisters! Better be first in line because they will go fast! Preferential consideration given to an adopter that wants BOTH!!!
Mike, Terry’s husband, holdng 2 rescued kittens – May 2024
May 6, 2024 FURR RESCUES FIVE KITTENS from a HORRIBLE hoarding situation where dozens of cats and kittens were located. A good rescue friend called me about it. Animal Control was involved but the rescue groups stepped in and took what they could.
Terry’s husband (shown above) drove over 2 hours ONE way today to pick up FIVE adorable little kittens!!! Thank you Mike for letting me stay home and care for all the FURR cats!
The 5 kittens are currently at the vet’s office getting checked out, shots and whatever else they need.
These little guys are 3 boys and 2 girls! Soooo LUCKY to be rescued!!!
2 are already spoken for and the other 3 are at Sound Cat for adoption. They are soooo cute, playful and ready for adoption!

September 4, 2023 Some wonderful news happened that I want to share with all of you! Patti (FURR VOLUNTEER & adopter of GABBY!) fell in love with BARE just as I did months ago and has now adopted him!
Bare in recent times, but showing scars from life on his own
Bare’s Rescue & Rehab Story This amazing cat came from a beautiful Castle Hayne estate home. A lovely lady, named Mrs. Barefoot, called me quite upset. She was elderly and living alone in a large estate home with beautiful grounds. Her husband had passed & her children were grown & gone, and Mrs. Barefoot could no longer maintain her property. She knew she had to sell, but she had a HUGE problem that saddened her to her core. You see, Mrs. Barefoot loved cats & had been feeding some feral cats on her property for years. She had done the right thing by trapping & fixing all the cats, releasing them after recovery & letting them live on her estate. The cats were ALL black (probably related) and relied on Mrs. Barefoot for food, water, shelter & love…..but yet they remained feral.
When I received the phone call from Mrs. Barefoot she was quite distraught. I agreed to help her re-trap all the cats, update them on all needed vet care (shots, etc.) and, after what seemed to be an impossible task, I was able to find a beautiful sanctuary for them to live. It was absolutely & positively the LAST cats that the sanctuary would take in. They were so kind to take them for me, but no more cats would be allowed to come in because they were way beyond FULL!
Mrs. Barefoot was so happy her beloved cats were safe and all the cats adjusted well to their new life.
But, after a few weeks, I got a call. ONE more black cat showed up and looked worse for wear. He was a huge male with many battle scars. I was able to trap him and get him immediately to the vet.
I named him “BARE” after Mrs. Barefoot, but seriously thought about naming him Al after AL Pacino’s movie “Scar Face”! BARE was beaten up to a pulp and I decided to keep him at FURR on medications for a while to get him healthy before deciding where he could go.
BARE was VERY FERAL, hissing at us, ears flat back and scared to death we were going to hurt him. Most of the volunteers steered clear of him and I, personally, got swatted several times while medicating him.
Low and behold, as many times before with feral cats, BARE took a good turn. His ears came up, he just buried his head when I came to pet him and stopped swatting at me. Soon, he actually looked forward to seeing me coming and and would blink his eyes.
Bare with new Mom Patti – Sept 2023
The rest is magical. He fattened up, got a beautiful shiny coat (despite the battle scars), became very loving with all of us and the other FURR kitties. Over time, Patti fell in live with him, just as I did, and she took him home on trial. I can’t tell you how many tears I shed when he left, but I knew it was an amazing home for him, plus I was dealing with a couple of very old cats of my own.
So, it is now official and Patti wants to Adopt BARE for life! Congrats Patti! Not sure who is more lucky, you or him!
January 2023 – More details on “Bare” soon! This kitty would love to be adopted with Lea!

September 11, 2023 ASHTON GOT ADOPTED!!! So THRILLED to tell everyone that ASHTON has found her wonderful “furrever” home down off of Carolina Beach Road with a wonderful family!
Mom works part time as a nurse and Dad travels, but both just lost their beloved tortie kitty. They came to meet ASHTON and I told her to put on her best face ad not to be a DIVA, but ASHTON was her normal entertaining self and talked, rubbed, played and swatted a little with some play bites. Personally, I LOVE her tortitude and basically you just have to understand that she is a princess and she calls the shots!
I loved the couple and really thought it would be a GREAT fit for a one-cat household full of love and time to give her! They called me back and wanted her!!! I delivered her yesterday! She explored all around making meowing conversations to herself. Today she is sitting in mom’s lap, eating her food and using the litter box like a champ.
I really miss her at FURR greeting me and demanding treats, but this was meant to be. I’m thrilled!
Terry
August 2023 Learn more about me in my new video with FURR President Terry Schultz!
July 2023 I’m miss personality PLUS! I really LOVE to talk about everything! I’m soooo happy when I get visitors! My coloring is gorgeous because I am a Bengal-looking tabby/tortie! Very unique! I would LOVE to be an only cat, but if you introduce me slowly, other cats grow on me! Everyone loves me at FURR! I am a young adult kitty.

Jan. 18, 2024 KATIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! OK….I DID IT!
KATIE, the little orange kitten that road home from a guy’s workplace in the engine of his big work truck, has found her new home….at my house! The wife called me when she heard the kitten crying in the truck engine. I told her to put food out for her. Sure enough, she came out of the truck to eat and then quickly ran back up into the engine. This couple lives on a really busy road!
Since Kristy, FURR Volunteer, lived somewhat close, I asked her to loan her trap to catch the baby. It worked (thank goodness) and I went to pick her up! She was feral and quite skittish, but warmed up quickly.
When I took her to the vet, the date that they put down for her birthday was THE DAY my big orange boy, Sebastian, passed away. I couldn’t believe it…I had Sebastian for almost 19 years. Mike and I were so sad when we had to say goodbye to him in August 2023.
Katie at Terry’s home Dec 2023
Katie appeared to have been born for a reason (in my mind) and my saving her was not just coincidental. I have officially adopted her and she is the first cat that I’ve ever adopted that wasn’t sick, injured, feral or just because no one else wanted it!
KATIE will have a good life with Mike & me. She already sleeps with us and our other cats AND she likes our dogs! Woo hoo!
Terry >^,,^<
Nov. 22, 2023 Meet Katie our new kitten! Watch her video! Here is her amazing survival and rescue story!
Please note: FURR ensures all kitties are vaccinated, spayed and microchipped at the earliest appropriate age.
A sweet young lady called me to tell me that there was a kitten inside the MOTOR of her husband’s truck!!! With no cats or animals anywhere around their house, the feeling was that it came from a ride in the truck motor!
This couple lived right on busy Castle Hayne highway. They didn’t know how to save the kitten because it would only come out of the truck for food, then it would go right back inside the truck motor!
I had her call Kristy, on her side of town. Kristy loaned her a trap and showed her how to use it.
The kitten was trapped in a matter of minutes. I asked the lady if she could please put it in the bathroom for the night and that I would try to call around the next day (yesterday) to find a rescue with room (and money) or a foster.
Of course I found NO help.
The lady said her boyfriend would not let her bring the kitten in the house, so it spent the night in the trap with no water or litter box.
She told me she was going to have to let it out of the trap. This poor kitten had already survived getting killed in a truck motor, but with the house being right on the highway, the kitten would surely be killed.
I finished up my chores and headed out to Castle Hayne. The lady said the kitten was scared and she didn’t want to touch or scare it.
When I got there, it was a tiny orange female a couple of months old. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen.
I just grabbed her out of the trap by her scruff, looked her over good and put her in my carrier. The sweet girl wanted to keep her, but she said they couldn’t afford it and the boyfriend said “no”. She was in tears, but she had done the right thing by saving her life until I could get there.
I named the kitten after the lady: “Katie”.
I took Katie to Sound Cat and had her tested, shots, etc. I dewormed her and treated for fleas, etc.
She at at FURR in the ferret cage & needs LOTS of love! She was shaking and scared, but when I held her to my chest, she started purring up a storm! She’s just freakin’ adorable!!!
