Perch & Spot moving to FURR’s Sanctuary

Spot at the Sanctuary – 11-1-2025

Nov. 1, 2025 I’ve made the difficult decision today to move these 2 cats from the FURR adoption center out to the sanctuary.

It is heartbreaking for me to have to face the reality that I could not get these cats ready for adoption.

I have spent THREE years working with these 2 cats & I still cannot put Revolution on them, trim their nails or pick them up without an act of Congress!

Learn more about Perch’s amazing story.

No one wants these cats & I love them both so much.  I have gotten so close to them….but usually at a distance.  I’m the only one that can pet them, but that’s about it.

Both PERCH & SPOT were trapped & rescued at the Atlantic Seafood place that closed down.

Perch at the Sanctuary – 11-1-2025

I have no idea what there life was like before I saved them, but I imagine it was survival of the fittest.

It’s difficult to accept that there will be a few feral cats that have been so traumatized by humans that they cannot recover.

I know they will be ok at the sanctuary, but today would be their last Revolution treatment, their last personal “hands on” by me and the last time they will see their close siblings.

PERCH was crying in his temporary cage at the sanctuary & my heart just broke.  When I added SPOT to join him, he quieted down.

I know this is only a temporary transition period, but I hate it for them.  They don’t understand what’s happening to them.

Please say a prayer for PERCH, SPOT & for me.  It’s tough love at Its max.

    Thank you.

  • Minnie is Adopted!

    Minnie is Adopted!

Sept. 2, 2025 HOORAY!  We have another “foster failure”!  This is a good thing!

    Minnie & Alyssia – Aug 2025

Little rescued kitten, “MINNIE”, has just been adopted by her foster family and our FURR volunteer, Alyssia!

It was love at first sight when Alyssia saved this poor little kitten & brought her in under FURR.

After a week of recovery @ FURR from having spay surgery, MINNIE was missed terribly & Alyssia just had to adopt her!

We are thrilled for this happy ending!  We wish MINNIE & Alyssia years of happiness!

    Terry

    >^,,^<

August 27, 2025 This beautiful little kitten was found by one of our FURR volunteers, Alyssia. She saw the kitten in the marsh and she did whatever it took to catch her!

She was scared and tiny…quite small for her age and very skinny.

After a couple of months, vet work from FURR and lots of love from Alyssia, MINNIE is now ready for adoption!

She is really super sweet, purrrrrs up a storm & has the softest fur! This kitten is fully vetted & gets along well with EVERYONE!

FURR has lots of cute kitty friends that can accompany MINNIE as well!

  • PIPSQUEAK & BARRINGTON ADOPTED !

    PIPSQUEAK & BARRINGTON ADOPTED !

Sept. 17, 2019 A very very sweet young lady stopped by FURR to look at the kitties.  Her name was SARAH and she wanted to embark on her first pets as a working professional with her own place!  She stayed a LONG time petting the kittens and you could tell she had really put some thought into this.  She was full of questions (the right kind!) about how to care for them, etc.  I knew right away that Sarah was going to be a wonderful & responsible mom for her new kitties!

Barrington at FURR – Aug 2019

Sarah loved several of the kittens but she immediately fell in love with BARRINGTON!  She petted him and listened to him purr and he seemed to like her a lot too!  That seemed like a given that Sarah wanted to adopt BARRINGTON, but then she had decided she wanted two kittens so that could keep each other company…..I didn’t even have to persuade her!

Sarah decided to come to visit the FURR rescue facility and visit the kitties again.  She had mentioned favoring PIPSQUEAK, but after the lodge visit, she decided definitely……..YES!  PIPSQUEAK would be the 2nd kitty adopted! (gray tabby shown above at FURR – Sept 2019)

Barrington & new Mom Sarah – Sept 2019

BARRINGTON & PIPSQUEAK were adopted by Sarah and they will be leaving FURR this coming Wednesday!  I am so happy for these two kittens!

BARRINGTON was the kitten I rescued out of a drain pipe after being down there for DAYS!

Pipsqueak & new Mom Sarah – Sept 2019

PIPSQUEAK was a kitten I rescued with his 3 siblings in the back yard woods of a fellow adopter who called me about them.  Four kittens were rescued along with their mom, Chatty Cathy.  PIPSQUEAK was a teeny tiny little thing and probably the runt of the litter. He finally caught up with the others and turned out to be just adorable & VERY sweet!!!

I am so happy for these rescued kittens!  I am grateful to SARAH for giving them a loving home!  These 2 kittens will be very happy together!!!

They will be missed very very much……..

  • Autumn is Adopted with Woody!

    Autumn is Adopted with Woody!

Oct. 20, 2025 Woody (right above) is adopted along with Autumn (left above)! Wildflower, Fern and Forrest are still available – please see their stories below.

A really nice couple with 2 sweet little girls came to FURR a couple of times to look at kitties. Over the weekend, they texted me that they had made a decision & wanted AUTUMN & WOODY!!!

I trimmed the 2 kitty’s nails, copied all the paperwork, packed up food & litter & delivered them today.  I cried!  I’m not so attached to Woody because he is a kitten (and everybody loves kittens) but Autumn was quite special to me.  I trapped her as a feral cat & we worked with her for over a year.  She turned out to be extremely grateful for her rescue!  The lady that fed her (and 2 other cats) left them abandoned & moved away leaving all 3 cats.

I trapped all 3.  Two of the cats went to another rescue and I kept Autumn (i was too full already).

Anyway, Autumn turned around & became a hilarious, fun-loving kitty with a BIG personality!  She loved to rub on everybody’s face & head.  I called her the “hair messer-upper” cat!

I will send more pictures later, but both Autumn & Woody settled right in and I’m so happy for both of them.  I wish them a wonderful life from here forward & I am grateful that I could be their beginning!

Autumn loving Elizabeth – FURR Volunteer – Aug 2025

April 15, 2025 Watch this adorable new Video of Autumn showing her very affectionate personality!

October 15, 2024 My name is AUTUMN!  I’m the funniest, silliest, shiniest, friendliest, most talkative cat you have ever seen!  I am TRULY ONE IN A MILLION!  I’m only about a year old and everyone at FURR loves me!!!  To say I’m a character is putting it mildly…I’m a nut!  I’m just a super “excited to be rescued” kitty!  Come visit & see for yourself.  I’ll tickle your funny bone!

June 20, 2024 AUTUMN is such an amazing kitty!  She continues to crack me up every day!  She is nonstop wiggling and nonstop chattering! She can’t be still for 5 minutes so I have to pet and rub her while she is head bunting me or slapping her tail against everything she walks by!

Autumn “reaching out” – Aug 2025

Autumn is getting very sleek and healthy! Her sunburned auburn fur is finally turning black.  She loves the kittens but would probably LOVE to be the only queen of the castle!

May 2024 – Autumn’s dental surgery was successful and she’s feeling much better – and happier! We do still need about $1,000 to cover her surgery, so please donate today!

April 12, 2024 Autumn is hilarious!  Watch her video! She is so excited to have attention that she can’t stop wiggling!  She is doing well, upper respiratory has cleared up from her antibiotics and eating her mushy food well!

Her dental is scheduled for mid May.  We are on the waiting list to get in sooner.  Her mouth is horrible with rotten teeth and painful red gums.

We need $2,000 to cover her expenses!!!  We’ve raised a small amount, but we have a long way to go. Please share with anyone you know that might want to help! Autumn is extremely grateful for the help!  Another special rescue cat that would have died left outside on her own.

Also, here (feature photo above) is a cute pic of her peeking out of her little house!

April 5, 2024 Here is Terry’s latest Urgent Rescue & Rehabilitation story about “Autumn”, named after the area where Terry found her. Please click our Donate button on the right today to help us with the veterinary bills (current and upcoming)!

Watch this amazing video of Terry giving Autumn much needed TLC and telling Autumn’s story with more details below.

I got a call from a lady in Wilmington, NC.  Her neighbor moved away and left outdoor feral cats to survive on their own.  It was a bad and sad situation. The cats were hanging out at this lady’s house (the lady that called me), using her yard as a litter box, getting on their cars and one of the cats scratched their dog and caused a large vet bill.  I believe she said her dog killed that one. So she and her husband wanted the cats gone ASAP.

I did the best I could calling and making contacts with Wilmington rescue groups with no luck.  No one could help.  It’s really not my territory since I’m overwhelmed in my own area. But, once you know of abandoned animals, it’s hard to erase it from your mind.

The lady thought there were 3 cats left.  I finally found a place for the cats to go (a long way away) and it was sheer luck that they had only a couple of openings. So I trapped the first 2 cats, took them to the vet (as the rescue requested) and then drove them out to the rescue with updated shots, flea/parasite treatment, etc.

The first 2 cats cost FURR $240.

I went the next day back to trap the final 3rd cat.  I got that one and dropped it off at the vet for the same vet work as the other 2.  All 3 of these cats were TNR from a prior year, so at least they were already fixed and ear tipped.

BUT, I got a call from the vet saying that this feral cat had a bad Upper Respiratory Infection and a totally infected mouth, gums and teeth! This cat needs at least 2 weeks of meds, syringe feeding before the dental surgery.

Autumn’s initial veterinary exam cost an additional $250.

Autumn’s dental bill will be an additional $1,500.

I put her in my garage so I could care for her.  It only took a couple hours to get her purring and making biscuits…unbelievable.  I think she has been starving and hurting for a while.  This poor kitty, in pain and hungry, had a soft blanket, soft food, sweet voices and rubs.  She totally transformed.

Please help us help sweet Autumn via the secure, easy Donate button on the right!

Please pray for this kitty.  The soonest dental appointment I could get for her at Sound Cat is a month away. If anyone has time to make phone calls to area vet’s to find one that works with rescues, could charge us less and get “Autumn” in earlier, I would be so grateful!!!

Thank you all so much for well wishes and prayers!  I’ve got my work cut out for me….

  • Dottie Adopted!

    Dottie Adopted!

Dottie with Terry (middle) and her new family – Sept 2025

Sept. 16, 2025 WONDERFUL NEWS!!! DOTTIE is adopted !!!  I am so happy for this beautiful cat!  To think that she went from being on the euthanasia list to being adopted is INCREDIBLE!!!

The young couple that adopted her really had compassion for her past abuse.  They are determined to love her & be gentle with her “furrever”!

I took her to her new home & she was pretty calm about it.  When I asked how she was doing, I received a video of DOTTIE sitting on the couch with soft blankets making biscuits!!!  Can u believe that???

It appears to be a wonderful match and I miss Dottie so much at FURR.

DOTTIE started out being scared of everyone and hated all the other cats, but after we worked with her for a few months, she began to feel safe, confident & pretty laid back.  I knew she was ready to go.

DOTTIE will be missed, but what a happy ending for this rescued girl!!!

FURR saves Dottie – May 2025

May 31, 2025 Meet DOTTIE in her first video with FURR! I rescued her from New Hanover Animal Control on the DAY she was to be euthanized!

Here is a second video of Dottie after she was at FURR for a couple of weeks! This beautiful 5 years young kitty is long haired, very sweet, very talkative and being wonderful at FURR considering all that she has been through!

DOTTIE’S owner left her at Animal Control and told them to euthanize her because she didn’t want her any more!

We have had DOTTIE a few weeks now and she has been “purrfect”! Everybody loves her and she talks to us, rolls around on the floor, always uses her litter box and is a delight to have! She acts as if she has been abused and seems scared at times almost afraid we are going to hit her or yelling at her? We just pet her gently, love her, talk sweet to her and she LOVES that! She rubs all around our legs and let’s us pick her up with no problem! I’m so glad she is with FURR!

She vetted, healthy, clean and is ready to go! Believe me, we will be extremely picky about who gets her. She deserves a great home!

Watch Lowes in his new video!

January 9, 2025 – At the location where I was feeding Advance Auto Mama Kitty for several weeks, I noticed that even when she wasn’t in that area (via her tracking collar) the food was still getting eaten. This is a wooded area in the middle of a VERY busy shopping center where NO cats could live safely.

Lowes enjoying regular meals – March 2025

I observed a few times and got a few clips on my wildlife camera and saw a gray striped kitty eating the food.  Of course, as soon as I would approach, it would run. After I finally captured Advance Auto Mama, I kept putting food out for the tabby cat and then I set a trap to save it.

I caught him, no problem, and took him to be neutered and vetted.  He had a HUGE face, so knew he was a male kitty. My goal was to put him in with my feral cats after an isolation period. I put him in the master bathroom at FURR to recuperate after his surgery.  Overall, he was pretty healthy, but he was thin, COVERED in ticks, tested negative for FIV & FeLV and got all his shots.  I did tip his left ear.

Lowes after rescue – Jan 2025

His name is “LOWES”! So, after a week of hurrying his head and shaking in fear, he has started allowing us to rub and scratch him!  He has never attempted to hiss, bite or scratch.  After a week, he has accepted the fact that he is safe, warm, fed & being cared for.

I don’t think LOWES will go to my sanctuary because he is going to be awesome!  He is also GORGEOUS, has a short stout body and a short tail!

    Addie & Party 10-20-24

October 20, 2024 Meet Addie (shorthair black female shown above) and Party (gray longhair female shown above) in their new video! These sweet sisters are a matched set, full of affection and so happy to finally be safe, snuggly and well fed. Party is the third sibling mentioned in the original story below.

    Addie & Toto 9-9-24

September 23, 2024 UPDATE ON MAMA CAT & 2 BABIES RESCUED! The mama cat and 2 babies that I trapped that were living behind Advance Auto in Hampstead are doing OK.  They were living in and out of the dumpster.  I would see them on my way home from FURR at night and with NO other rescue interested in saving feral cats, I just had to save them, I have so many black shorthair cats.

The cat family was starving and living very close to Hwy. 17!  Surely they would die soon from starvation, parasites, disease, cars or coyotes.  They really didn’t have a chance to survive there.

Mama (see below) is very feral.  I can barely pet her while she is hissing at me.  I took her to Sound Cat, our vet, to be spayed, shots, microchipped, etc.  She recovered in a cage at FURR for a week and then I moved her out to our sanctuary.  She has a slight head tilt, so I can always know which one she is.  The vet said this could be from head trauma or from being hit by a car, etc.  Who knows, but she is eating and pooping normally.

The 2 kittens went to the vet for exam and 1st shots.  They are TERRIFIED.  They are 2 little girls about 12 weeks old, but the smaller one, “TOTO” is way underweight and REALLY feral.  The larger kitten, “Addie” is a little less scared.

Doc Rockwell informed me that TOTO has cataracts!  We don’t know how much she can see which may be part of her fear. I need to schedule an appointment with the animal eye specialist to see if TOTO can be helped at all.

I’m syringe feeding them because they don’t want to eat. Meanwhile, they are safe at FURR and I’m doing my best to care for them.

I’m really scared there may be more siblings, so I’m setting traps every am and pm keeping a close watch just in case.

    Little Mama 09-01-24

September 1, 2024 Watch this video of this little kitty mama finally enjoying some good food along with Terry’s encouragement. Here is their story …

I saw a cat and babies a couple weeks ago in a Hampstead store parking lot.  You can imagine my thoughts of horrible things happening to them.

I put out food and water and went back every night to feed them, while wondering why I am the ONLY person that sees these things! They seemed to disappear after a couple of days, but I still kept putting food and water out every night.

Yesterday, I joined my husband and friends for dinner before a final check on FURR for the night. It was about 11:30 pm when we were on the way home and the Mom and babies were in the parking lot scrounging around the dumpsters. I went back to FURR to get traps and I waited until I caught mom and 1 baby!

Tonight, I got a second baby and I do believe there is a third. I’ll be back again tomorrow night to try for the last kitten. I feel so bad knowing it’s all alone out there!

Mom is VERY tiny and probably no more than 6 months old. The babies are probably around 3-4 months old. They are all black and otherwise just skin and bones – literally starving. I also managed to get flea/worm medicine on all three.

  • Charlie is Adopted!

    Charlie is Adopted!

Charlie with New Dad Feb 2025

February 2, 2025 Our tiny little fluff ball, CHARLIE, went to her new home yesterday! A very nice fella took this little stuffed animal kitty!  He just loves her and you can see that she loves him too!  It’s adorable!

This gorgeous kitty has been overlooked for way too long because she is shy!  But this is a match made in Heaven and her new owner just thinks she’s great!  It really was meant to be.

CHARLIE (is a girl) and she is the LAST cat to be finally placed out of a colony at a former Seafood facility that I rescued at Surf City!  It took two years, lots of taming time and lots of funding to support and care for all these cats.  Now, the last one has been adopted and I’m so happy for her!

The couple that alerted me to all if these feral cats named all of them.  Charlie was thought to be a boy, but was not! I think her owner likes the name anyway!

Blessings to Charlie and her future with Ryan!  She’s one of the most adorable cats I have ever rescued!

    Beautiful Charlie – Nov 2024

July 16, 2024 Good news! Charlie is recovering from successful dental surgery today! BLESS her heart!  Her mouth was WAY worse than I thought and she had EVERY tooth pulled!!!  I am sure this will make her so much happier and pain free!  Poor little thing! She’ll soon be healed and feeling much better about eating and life in general!

Nov. 12, 2023 Meet Charlie in her new video! She is the LAST kitty left from my colony rescue at Topsail Beach.  She was completely traumatized when rescued and I was told by the caretakers that she witnessed her brother killed by a coyote.

Charlie is such a petite little girl and just needs LOVE!!!  barely weighing 5 lbs., she’s like a fuzzy stuffed animal that you just want to cuddle!

  • Crappie (like the type of fish) Adopted!

Crappie (like the type of fish) Adopted!

April 28, 2025 Wonderful news! CRAPPIE is adopted! Last week I took CRAPPIE to her new home! The adopter is a veterinarian & super sweet!  She LOVES our sweet little CRAPPIE!  Crappie traveled great in the car looking around & never made a peep.

After CRAPPIE got adopted a few months ago & returned after only a few days, I am thrilled that this home will be so much better for her!  The vet is a beautiful petite little lady just like CRAPPIE!  She understands that in a new home, you have to be patient with a new kitty!  She also has a dog & I loaned her my baby gate to make the intro to the dog go smoothly.

Crappie’s new mom tells me that she is eating, using her litter box & purring up a storm!  She will be a little shy for a while, but considering all she has been through, the reports that I am getting sound great!

This poor little kitty was rescued at the Atlantic Seafood production plant along with at least 60+ other cats. Crappie was skin & bones & was already blind in one eye.  It’s a miracle that she survived long enough for me to save her!

I’m so happy right now for this special little kitty & for the special lady that adopted her!!!

January 24, 2025 My name is CRAPPIE, like the fish! Meet me in this video! I was rescued used by FURR at the Atlantic Seafood plant in Hampstead.  That plant was torn down & I was saved along with about 70 other relatives of mine!

I’m just a tiny little girl, a couple years old and I am VERY SPECIAL because I am blind in one eye.

I do just fine with one eye & I never feel sorry for myself!  It’s hard for me to understand why I am still up for adoption?  I guess folks want “purrfect” cats?  BUT, I am so adorable, sweet & tiny.  My little upside down smile gives me that funny “Grumpy Cat” look!  LOL!

Please come & visit me!  I really don’t see how you could meet me & not love me!
