April 16, 2026 URGENTLY NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR A SWEET, LOVING MAMA AND 4 BEAUTIFUL KITTENS! Last week a lady dropped off a stray cat at Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital. The lady said the kitty was having problems (but wasn’t her kitty. She was having kittens!

I promised my husband i would NOT bring any more cats & kittens home if i opened a rescue

The cat is SUPER friendly & the 4 kittens are adorable. I don’t have any room at FURR, but I do want them at FURR as soon as possible because this mama THRIVES on attention & love!

    Mama’s white kitten #2 – April 2026

  • Life-saving reminder after a big scare and near miss!

Life-saving reminder after a big scare and near miss!

Feb, 1, 2026 Ensure your kitty cannot ingest string, cords, or other dangerous household materials – see list below! Please read and share this important reminder

A client of mine that adopted a cat from FURR, has had a harrowing experience accidentally eating fishing line!

When I adopt out cats, I try to cover a LOT of information, but sometimes it is an overwhelming amount of data. I try to explain one thing for sure:

NEVER, EVER allow any cat access to the following:

    Blind cords

    String of any kind

    Yarn

    Thread

    Hair ties

    Rubber bands

    Filament

    Etc.

All of these things are extremely fun for cats to play with & extremely dangerous for them to play with.

My client has some fishing line inside the house. Supposedly the fishing line was out of reach.

When a couple inches of fishing line was seen sticking out of the cat’s mouth, a trip to the animal ER was eminent.

NEVER try to pull on the string or line sticking out (of either end of the cat!) Let the ER vet handle. Severe damage can be done to the cat’s organs if you try to pull it out!!!

After this horrible incident and $1,000 bill at the ER, it was determined that nothing could be done except wait to see if the line would pass. If the line didnt get passed within a day or so, exploratory surgery was next.

After many tears and prayers, and THREE days of waiting, the cat passed an enormous amount of fishing line in his poop!

This is truly an act of GOD for this much line to feed through the cat’s body without wrapping around & getting hung up on his organs!

Folks, ive seen a lot of things with cat rescue, but I have never seen a cat successfully pass this amount of line (or string) without surgery.

BEWARE! LOOK AROUND YOUR HOUSE & PLEASE KEEP YOUR PRECIOUS CATS SAFE!

Here’s a picture to absorb in your brains! I’m still trying to take it all in.

VERY frightening & thrilled this cat didn’t die!!!

Terry appears on Fox News Wilmington’s “Paws for the Cause” Program with Salvie! Watch their video!

Meet this beautiful 8-month-old female kitty who is ready for her forever home! 💕

She is already spayed, up to date on shots, blood tested, and ready to go. This sweet girl is a domestic short-haired dilute gray tortie with an incredibly soft coat and a BIG personality!

    ✨ What makes her special:
    • Sweet, affectionate, and playful
    • Energetic and loves to chat
    • Doesn’t like other cats and has NO idea she’s one!
    • Absolutely LOVES people and being the center of attention

She would do best as the only cat, soaking up all the love and cuddles from her humans. 🐱💙

Dec. 14, 2025 Yesterday my niece called me.  She & her roommate went to the Salvation Army to drop off some things and a young kitty came running up to them screaming for food & attention.

They asked the SA folks about the cat & they had called animal control to pick her up.  Several employees were allergic to cats, so they did not want her hanging around the store.

    Salvie relaxing – Dec 2025

No doubt, someone dumped her there. She was extremely sweet.

My niece asked me to take her & I agreed to take her under FURR, but that she would have to foster her until we had room.

“SALVIE” is really precious, not microchipped & now safe, warm & fed in my niece’s bathroom!

FURR is working hard to rescue as many cats and kittens in our area as possible, restore them to good health and then find loving FURR-ever homes for each one.

However the demand for rescues far exceeds our resources. So we need your help!

We need funds for critical post-rescue veterinary care for injuries and illnesses as well as ongoing care such as food, litter, meds, etc. to prepare them for adoption!

We can’t let ill or injured animals go untreated or worse, be euthanized, just because there’s no room and no money.

September 2, 2025 See Orange Roughy’s new photo to the left perching in a cat tree.

It has now been over 3 years since these gorgeous cats, Orange Roughy and his brother Guppy, were rescued. They were just kittens when I trapped & saved them from a seafood production plant that was closing down.

The kittens had been traumatized, starved & constantly dodging massive tractor trailer trucks & equipment. They were pitiful & barely alive when I finally caught them.

These 2 brothers have come through a tremendous journey. They are both now healthy & kind, but still very very cautious especially around someone new.

We have worked hard to help them gain confidence and feel safe, but no one will adopt them or give them a chance. Most adopters are looking for a “purrfect” cat that will make themselves happy. Im looking for that selfless adopter that wants to save a life or two because that is what paying it forward & rescue work is all about.

Orange Roughy perching – Aug 2025

These two beautiful sweet boys need time & love. If you think you have patience & a big heart for the not-so-purrfect cats, give me a call! As soon as you meet these precious souls, your heart will tell you what to do.

I feel so sorry for these cats after so many rescues have come & gone and they still wait for a chance of a home.

“Orange Roughy” is the big, beautiful long haired orange boy and “Guppy” is his gorgeous orange & white brother.

I pray for them every day. I know their angel adopter is out there somewhere!

Why donate to FURR? If we can get enough people to give us a small donation, we can rescue and care for more cats and kittens urgently in need and prepare them for a FURR-ever home, like Oscar & Tony, bonded brothers, and sweet, handsome Tux, one of our special needs kitties!

Meet all FURR kitties available for adoption on PetFinder!

While we are so grateful to our community of supporters for helping FURR survive this long, we are continuing to struggle and unfortunately moving backwards in terms of our expenses versus our donations due to several rescues this year where the kitties needed expensive veterinary care, such as the kitties rescued from living near an Advance Auto store. We don’t know how much longer we can sustain this trend, but we can’t stop saving the FURR kitties! Our work is too important, so we are asking for your help to make ends meet.

If you’re not in a position to donate, you can also help by sharing FURR’s GIVINGGRID with others you think might want to help too. You can also share FURR’s facebook page!
Somehow, we always find a way to make it through for the benefit of all our precious kitties. Sometimes it almost seems impossible and we look back and wonder how we got by. Then we remember, our miracle is you! Thank you for helping us!
What to know about FURR? Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR) was founded in 2009 by Terry Schultz and to this day, 100% of her time is devoted to rescuing and rehabilitating stray and feral cats and kittens. Your donation supports our “no kill” shelter, a cage free facility, the FURR Lodge, which is a safe haven for cats and kittens to temporarily reside, recover and become adorable, loving pets ready for FURRever homes.

SUCCESS: Kuranda Matching Campaign (7 Towers still needed!)

    Kuranda-image-Feb-2025

Sept 22, 2025 Thanks to Kuranda AND our generous Donors, FURR is receiving 8 Donations + 5 Matching Donations!:

    3 Cat Towers (2 Donated, + 1 Matching Donation)

    10 Cat Beds (6 Donated + 4 Matching Donations)

Please note: We still need 7 more Cat Towers to finish replacing existing wood/carpet ones deemed unacceptable by our NC State Inspector.

September 1, 2025 – Kuranda will DONATE a MATCHING PRODUCT for each of the NEXT 5 DONATIONS to FURR starting today!

Please click on the Kuranda image on the right to donate today!

These beds and towers are great for FURR kitties:

Easy cleanup vs. carpeted or cloth trees or beds
Multiple cozy nooks for cats in the 7-level style
Save floor space with their stackable design
Durable, strong and great climbing kitties
Longer lasting than wood or carpet/cloth beds

Our kitties would looooove having several more beds and towers. Both products are much more comfortable for the kitties and much easier for us to move and clean than carpeted trees and other types of beds!

New Gazebo in FURR Facility Yard 10-25-2024

October 29, 2024 Last week I personally paid to have a very large, but very old, gazebo moved from my home to the FURR Ferals’ facility!

    New Gazebo kitties love 10-25-2024

I thought they might like it and we rarely used it.

Well, I was right!  The FURR FERALS play  on it and enjoy it every day!  I’m so happy that it gives them another fun thing to do!

    New Sanctuary – April 2024

September 2024 Learn how to Donate a Kuranda Bed! We’ve also updated our Wishlist with many things our kitties need that are inexpensive household items!

We appreciate the generous donations we’ve recently received to help supply the new sanctuary’s ongoing needs to feed, vet and house all FURR’s kitties – those ready for adoption (varies between 10-20, sometimes more) and those still in post-rescue rehabilitation (varies between 25-50 kitties).

July 2024 Many thanks again for your continued support for the new sanctuary as detailed below. We’ve come a long way and donations are still much appreciated!

June 28, 2024 We still need to raise funds for vetting and moving ferals into our new sanctuary. In our ongoing efforts to ensure we’re using FURR’s resources as efficiently and effectively as possible, this project has been one of our highest priorities in recent months. Now that all FURR kitties are consolidated into one location, we need to replenish the funds we had for day-to-day care and feeding that were re-directed for this special project. Terry & Team are now able to devote much more time and resources to caring for kitties in the new sanctuary.

    Salmon – FURR Feral 06/2024

June 24, 2024 ALL OF THE FURR FERALS HAVE BEEN MOVED into our new sanctuary, shown here!  Many thanks to my sister, Fran, for helping me many mornings catching these cats.  Many were already trap savvy and she had to help me net them.  It was stressful for all of us.  We hate upsetting the cats and it was truly a test of our tough love. Every cat was re-vetted and I took one or two cats to Sound Cat every day for almost 3 weeks! Each cat was examined, got updated shots and treatment for fleas/worms.  I have a HUGE respect for the Sound Cat vet’s, techs and staff!  They were so patient and wonderful to help me with this project.  I’m glad it’s over!

Ferals in New Sanctuary – 6-13-24

These FURR FERALS from Atlantic Seafood seem to be settling in to their new sanctuary home pretty well but all still scared and confused after being trapped again (or netted). Ninety-five percent of the Atlantic Seafood cats are black with a white spot on their chest. There are also 5 torties, 1 siamese, 1 orange and 2 gray striped tabbies.  All the rest are black and beautiful.

Ferals in New Sanctuary – 6-13-24

This building and property has been my project for over a year now.  There is a lot more room for the cats inside the building and outside in a fenced in area. The cats will stay contained in the building (which is cooled and heated) for at least 30 days.  After that, hopefully they will understand that this is their new home. I did install security cameras all over the place so I can monitor the cats inside and eventually outside. Even though the cats have a lot more room, they are still cuddling up together in one of the three lofts I made for them up high!

Please know that dropping off cats, or any animals, is a felony.  FURR FERALS is at FULL CAPACITY, has NO volunteers (only me 7 days a week and twice a day) and is struggling financially.

4 Successful Dental Surgeries after Generous Donation

    Tang Fish – 06/2024
Trigger Fish (formerly Blue Fish) – 06/2024
    Algae –
    06/2024
    Autumn –
    04-2024

July 15, 2024 Good news – All 4 dentals are done! Tang’s dental surgery was successful after treating infection, broken teeth (28 teeth removed), abscesses and fire engine red gums! Algae’s dental surgery on July 9 was also successful after treating an infected mouth removing 24 teeth! They will both soon be healed and enjoying pain free mouths! Trigger Fish’s dental was successfully done July 8 and Autumn is also feeling much better after her dental surgery in May.

Salmon, shown in the section above about the new sanctuary, also had a horrible mouth and needed teeth pulled, and so now thankfully has had successful dental surgery on July 16.

June 28, 2024 Wonderful news! Thanks to a very generous donor, we can now plan for the dental surgeries for the 4 feral kitties urgently in need, including Tang Fish! Recently, a family adopted another older FURR kitty that had undergone an urgently needed full mouth dental extraction that FURR paid for when the kitty was rescued. So this kitty’s new family kindly wants to “Pay it Forward“!

This donation pays for these FOUR dental surgeries: TANG FISH, AUTUMN, ALGAE and TRIGGER

June 24, 2024 A kitty named “TANG FISH” (yes, that’s a fish name and yes, he is an orange kitty) BADLY needs a dental!!! TANG is an older feral and his teeth and gums are so bad that we moved him up on the waiting list! Poor cat! He deserves a happy, pain free life! So, that’s gonna be at least $1,000 for a FULL MOUTH removal of teeth.

Original Story about the Sanctuary and Dentals Needed

June 14, 2024 – What’s new at FURR? Two things – Our sanctuary and of course more rescues!

Terry has worked very hard for over a year to complete the new FURR sanctuary, all the while rescuing more kitties! So now while Terry moves kitties in, please help us raise funds for these urgent needs:

Vaccinate and move ferals to our new sanctuary – $200 per kitty / $2,400 total:

    • I have re-trapped, or netted, one or two feral cats per day from the holding pen at my house.  It has taken nonstop work and two or more trips to the vet every day.  Each cat is sedated, given updated shots, full exam and treated for fleas/parasites.
    • Two dozen cats have been done so far and moved to their permanent new FURR sanctuary.
    • Each cat costs about $200 including sedation.
    • TWELVE cats left to be trapped, vetted and moved- total cost approx. $2,400

    Multiple dental surgeries needed:

    • Three of the cats need dental work:
      • AUTUMN – FURR ADOPTABLE cat and dental has been done for $800, but we never raised enough money, so this came out of our operating budget.
      • TRIGGER FISH – FURR FERAL is scheduled July 8th FULL MOUTH EXTRACTIONS approx. $1,000 – $1,200
      • ALGAE – FURR FERAL is scheduled for July 9th dental with about 2 or 3 extractions approx. $800

    Food and Litter:

    • We have auto deductions from the checking account every 2 weeks from Chewy for food and litter.
      • Litter: $350 every 2 weeks = $700 per monthFood: Chewy runs $718 every 2 weeks = $1,436 a month
      • Royal Canin dry food runs us $255 every other month or $128 a month

    Ongoing care:

    • The other expenses FURR encounters are:
      • Vet bills related to each kitty’s rescue and recovery
      • Supplies – gloves, cleaning supplies, dish washing liquid, paper towels, kitty treats, toys, water filters, carrier pads, disinfectants, mopping pads and solution, toilet paper, Feliway refills, air fresheners, scratcher refills and so on and more.

We currently have $300 in our checking account!

Thank you for helping us get all the FURR kitties moved into our new sanctuary and to care for them after they’ve survived so much during their rescues and recoveries!
