A local vet called me & asked for my help in working with a feral family of cats that she was fostering.

She had a feral rescued mom & 4 babies in her garage. The kittens were coming around but the mama was hissing & swatting at her.

I went over and assessed the mama & could quickly see that she had great potential to be adopted. I gave the vet some instructions & pointers, but she called me a week or so later to tell me some news.

The kittens were taken in by a rescue but the mama kitty would be euthanized because she was feral.

Of course the mama cat had already pulled on my heart strings, so I took her to keep her alive.

At FURR, the mama cat, named “SUE”, tamed up beautifully and quickly! She has become sweet as pie, loves pets & talks to us all the time with her “thank you for saving me” conversations!

To top it off, SUE is absolutely gorgeous, healthy & loves the other cats!

SUE is spayed, had all her shots, blood tested & ready to go!

December 12, 2024 Both “Cocoa”, a 6-8 month old black female, and “Rocky”, a 2 year old gray tabby male, are now fixed, microchipped, shots, blood tested, etc. Now all they need is time and patience to get them ready for an indoor homes. Watch their video!

We would GREATLY appreciate anyone foster home for these two since we have no where to put them but in a small cage. Both are healthy, beautiful and progressing nicely.

We did receive a donation to cover their cost (thank GOD!), so their current vet bills have been paid!!!

November 28, 2024 I successfully caught 2 feral cats early Tues am in Holly Ridge! My realtor called me because she was moving and had been feeding them. She didn’t want to just leave them behind.

I took traps to her and showed her how to set them up. The traps were left open for about a week and she fed them inside the traps to get them used to it. Tues morning early I caught them, just as planned and took them to the S/N clinic in Castle Hayne.

FURR now has “Cocoa”, a 6-8 month old black female, and “Rocky”, a 2 year old gray tabby male who has a raccoon-looking tail like the cartoon character “Rocky Racoon”.

My realtor had hoped to keep them at her house for recovery and I loaned her a cage, but trying to take care of these kitties and moving at the same time understandably became overwhelming! So these cats are now at the FURR Sanctuary recovering from their surgery and traumatic day! They are both beautiful and I’m at least relieved that they are safe.

September 1, 2025 New FURR rescue! Davis is an adorable 3 to 4 month old silver tabby male kitten! Watch his video! FUN, FUN, FUN!

My niece found this little guy almost dead in the bushes of her front yard! Anemic from hundreds of fleas, skin & bones from starvation and FULL of worms, this kitten was on his way out.

My niece’s husband wrapped him in a towel and brought him inside. I got a call and we all went to work!

After a couple weeks of meds, food and a flea bath, this little boy kitten is doing great! He is the sweetest and happiest fella!

His name is “Davis” and he is ready now for his neuter surgery!

What a great rescue!!!

It has now been over 3 years since these gorgeous cats, Orange Roughy and his brother Guppy, were rescued. They were just kittens when I trapped & saved them from a seafood production plant that was closing down.

The kittens had been traumatized, starved & constantly dodging massive tractor trailer trucks & equipment. They were pitiful & barely alive when I finally caught them.

These 2 brothers have come through a tremendous journey. They are both now healthy & kind, but still very very cautious especially around someone new.

We have worked hard to help them gain confidence and feel safe, but no one will adopt them or give them a chance. Most adopters are looking for a “purrfect” cat that will make themselves happy. Im looking for that selfless adopter that wants to save a life or two because that is what paying it forward & rescue work is all about.

These two beautiful sweet boys need time & love. If you think you have patience & a big heart for the not-so-purrfect cats, give me a call! As soon as you meet these precious souls, your heart will tell you what to do.

Sept. 7, 2024 Meet adorable me in my new video!

April 13, 2024 My name is “BUMBLE BEE” and FURR rescued me from a terrible situation! My BIG bright eyes look just like a bee and my colors too! I am no bigger than a football and have quite a silly/sassy personality! After I get to know someone who is sweet and gentle with me, I follow them all around meowing and sticking my tail straight up in the air!

I’m only between 1 and 2 years old and I love belly rubs. They tell me that I’ve probably had a litter of kittens before! I wonder what happened to them? All I need is a little patience and love to become your little friend! Come visit me soon. I would probably prefer no dogs or loud children, but I do just fine with other cats. If they bother me, I just give them a pop with my paw, but no claws! Call me “Bee” for short!!!

Lioness – so happy to be rescued – Sept 2025

September 22, 2025 Last week I was going by Food Lion in Hampstead late one night when I saw a little black kitten rummaging through some trash!

I quickly ran to FURR, got a trap & within about 3 milaseconds, I had her in my trap….she was TINY. She was quiet as a mouse.

Back at FURR, all I had left was our “people” bathroom & that’s where she would have to go.

I reached into the trap to scruff her & bring her out and she started making air biscuits while I held her by the neck!

Well, this is good news! She was actually thrilled that I was holding her & when I put her down, she started rubbing my legs.

She voraciously ate a can of kitten food & I began treating her for fleas & worms, etc.

I named her “Lioness” since she came from Food Lion & looked like a little black panther.

Needless to say, she is precious, adorable, sweeeet & only a teensy shy.

Someone will be VERY blessed to have this baby in their home!!!

August 26, 2025 It turns out that Kathy & her granddaughter, Maxine, we’re RIGHT when they told me that little Wildflower sounded like she was having trouble breathing.

After a couple days of sounding funny, Wildflower got a LOT worse & sounded like she was struggling to breathe.

Woody – Aug 2025

I rushed her to Sound Cat & they sedated her & examined her throat saying she needed to be scoped with an endoscope to really see what’s going on.

NC State told me that I could come up, but would be on a waiting list to get her scoped. No thanks @ $1,000 a day! The Wilmington Animal ER said that their doc that does the endoscopic exams was booked this week & on vacation next week!

My sister & I worked quickly to fine a vet with a scope & thank goodness, Needham Animal Hospital had one & a very well known vet named Dr. Batts that said he could see Wildflower the NEXT day!

I took her to Dr. Batts & he did surgery on her! She had a lump in her throat that he had to remove. Luckily, after worrying about it, she came out of surgery fine! The lump was biopsied & was not cancer & was not a polyp. It was caused by some sort of trauma to her throat & could be from her spay surgery. We will never know, but she is doing great now!

WHEWWW!

The growth is not expected to return according to Dr. Batts.

What a blessing!!! This beautiful little angel is ready for adoption!

FURR took in FOUR KITTENS trapped in the woods in Rocky Point, NC! A really wonderful Samaritan followed my exact instructions and trapped 4 little kittens and their mama. This family was starving and homeless!

FURR took in the kittens after a couple of weeks and the lady that rescued them kept the mama kitty.

These 4 kittens are now healthy and happy!

Adopt Berry – Handsome new kitten

August 29, 2025 A new little one ready for adoption at FURR named “BERRY”!

This little kitten was all alone in the blackberry bushes crying for help! It was late at night and FURR volunteer, Elizabeth was out walking her dog. She heard the kitten crying in the bushes and she came and got me. After a few minutes of the kitten alluding capture, I was finally able to grab him!

BERRY has been amazing! He loves everybody and is being fostered by Elizabeth. BERRY loves to cuddle and loves the dog (big golden retriever)! He is truly amazing, happy and playful. BERRY is fully vetted & ready to go!
