Volunteers Still Urgently Needed!
If you would like to volunteer please contact Terry at Adoptafurrcat@gmail.com.

January 16, 2025 Our FURR Facebook has been maintained for SEVERAL years by Christa Ramos! Christa’s mom used to volunteer for me in Charlotte (Waxhaw) when we used to live there.
Sandy (Christa’s mom) knew how desperate I was to find someone to do FB for FURR & so she asked her daughter, Christa, to donate it. Christa agreed & has been doing our FB posts for a long time!
What you don’t know is that Christa took on this task along with her full time job, family to take care of, many pets of her own to care for AND also helping dog rescue groups!
We have found someone locally that has agreed to do our FURR FB & finally relieve Christa of that burden. Christa also lives out of the state, so she’s never even been in our area!
Bonnie has agreed to take on FURR FB & we are thrilled to have her helping us!
But, I don’t want to understate the huge gratitude we owe to Christa for the years of hard work she did for us!!!
Thank you Christa for everything I know you had to sacrifice to add another responsibility to your plate! We are so thankful for your efforts & will never forget you! Best wishes & happy 2025 to you Christa & your family (and beautiful mom, Sandy).
Christa is slowly transitioning FB over to Bonnie. Here’s hoping 2025 will be a record year for adoptions, donations & volunteers! It takes a village!
THANK U CHRISTA & BONNIE!!!

December 19, 2024 Wanted to send a out a BIG THANK U to a couple of FURR volunteers that have gone above & beyond to help me & the kitties!!!
Laura & Patti helped me with the FURR Christmas cards! It’s a big job every December and takes a lot of volunteer hours! I arrange, order & pay for the cards. Then I get return envelopes & inserts ready. Patti & Laura folded, stuffed & stamped nearly 1,000 cards! Then I finish them up, seal & mail them. The Christmas cards are our biggest fundraiser of the year. We have to get $1,500 to start to cover our costs before we make a profit for the kitties! Keep your fingers crossed that we have good donations!
Next I want to thank Karlin, who put in EIGHT hours of community service hours for her employer & did it all at FURR! She scrubbed & steam cleaned the floors & Elizabeth helped us get better organized. Thank you Karlin for doing this hard work. It was really needed! Thank u Elizabeth for helping her!!!
It takes a village!

November 24, 2024 Want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to a couple of folks behind the scenes @ FURR! Without these hard working volunteers, we could not survive!
Michelle Rivers in Charlotte, NC FURR’s Vice President is not seen, but is all around us! Michelle runs the FURR web site! She updates it, upgrades it when needed, works closely with our developer and does am amazing job! Hers is not easy and she “tries” to keep me in the loop whenever she can tie me down…LOL.
Now that I am no longer an office worker, I don’t want to know anything more about computers, electronics or business. Just leave me in the field to trap & save cats! Michelle also registers all of our microchips for our cats. She does many other things as well to help FURR, such as putting the adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet! Without her I don’t know how I would make it. THANK YOU MICHELLE for the love & support for the rescued FURR kitties!!!
Next, but not least, is CHRISTA!!! NY – FURR FACEBOOK!!! Christa also helps with fundraisers on FB to help keep the funds coming in! THANK YOU CHRISTA for all you do for the FURR kitties!!!

October 29, 2024 THANK U ELIZABETH for taking a few minutes out of your busy days to visit and work with the FURR cats several times a week! This has made a HUGE difference in how quickly the shy cats are responding, not just to me, but to Elizabeth also which helps when new people come to visit. There are several cats that have made a lot of progress just having Elizabeth and me both working with them every day:
Thank you Christa for all your hours spent helping to get our stories out on social media! Christa is not even in the area, but posts all of our news, adoptable cats & announcements. This is a REALLY important part of reaching the public so that they know who FURR is and how to help, adopt or donate!
Crappie! Gordon! Addie & Party Girl! Yardley! Blue Fish! Salmon! Tux! Charlie!
All of these cats were very shy & have made a huge step forward in their trust of humans!
Buddy, Toto, Cuttle Fish, Spot, Finny & Guppy are still a challenge….
The rest are beyond ready to leave FURR & get adopted! I am really struggling with why we still have these amazing black cats!
I am saddened every night I leave FURR because Oscar & Tony SCREAM for me NOT to leave them & I’m very emotional about these beautiful boys! They deserve MORE & are the best kitties ever!!! WHY??????
PLEASE HELP ME find them a home! They are truly loving, playful, healthy & GORGEOUS boys!!!

Next, thanks to Elizabeth for making contact with various companies on FURR’s behalf to see what we can get! She was able to get Chewy to donate FOOD & A NEW VACUUM! Way cool Elizabeth!
She has also contacted Land Rover, Wilmington, to see about their commitment to animal rescue & also other companies.
These are the things I just don’t have time to do & GREATLY appreciate anyone to help with! These are so many opportunities out there to help the cats that only takes some time & research. Thank u Elizabeth!
Sept. 23, 2024 Thanks so much to our volunteers who keep our kitties healthy and happy! But we still need several more in order to have adequate coverage and eliminate “double shifts”!
August 7, 2024 Update – We are thrilled to introduce a new volunteer, but several more are still needed!
First, please welcome Elizabeth, our new Kitty Happy Hour (KHH) volunteer! Elizabeth moved to Hampstead only a couple of months ago and literally lives about a block from FURR! She, and her son Cam, did volunteer work before and we are THRILLED to have them at FURR!
Elizabeth has been coming at least twice a week for KHH and it is already making a huge difference in the cats’ level of trust with strangers. Now, we have 2 KHH folks: Patti & Elizabeth!
With that said, I am currently doing 28 shifts a week after tomorrow. I am hanging in there, but I’m exhausted, so we need help in the worst way. Please try to recruit your kitty-loving friends, family, neighbors and anyone that might be able to spare a few hours a week.
While the job requirements are simple and few – volunteers MUST love cats unconditionally, have a good work ethic and dependability – the time they spend with FURR kitties is richly rewarding for both themselves and FURR kitties!

July 10, 2024 We need volunteers! Please consider giving back to the community by helping FURR cats!
All of the FURR rescues came from your local community, in and around Wilmington and Hampstead, NC. Most of the rescued cats came from the old Atlantic Seafood fish plant that was torn down this year.
Read the amazing story of how FURR rescued over SEVENTY cats from this abandoned set of buildings. It took over a year to catch all of the cats, get them all vetted & paid for. A lot of the cats, and all of kittens, have been adopted, but most of them are still being cared for and fed by FURR at their new safe sanctuary. We need volunteers to help us with the cats ready for adoption and the feral cats in our care.
September, 2023 – Watch this video of Terry with all the beautiful FURR kitties that are ready for adoption! In the meantime, hear her plea for volunteers for all kinds of help!
Terry urgently needs volunteers to help with a variety of activities such as taking care of kitties (feeding, letter boxes, etc.), administrative tasks or petting and playing with them during “Kitty Happy Hour” to help socialize them for their future FURR-ever family life!
If you would like to volunteer please contact Terry at Adoptafurrcat@gmail.com.
Meet all FURR kitties available for adoption on our Petfinder page!
Learn how to adopt this kitty! FURR adopts to approved homes only in the Hampstead/Wilmington and surrounding area.
If you are not ready to adopt a kitty, please consider fostering or sponsoring. All donations are tax deductible.
