    UPDATE MAY 2017: GABBY and MICKEY GO TO THEIR NEW HOME

    Yesterday (5/19/17) was a good day, but mixed with LOTS of emotions!  Late morning I took GABBY & MICKEY to their new home!!!  I am thrilled that they could go together!  The new excited parents, Melinda & Royce, are empty nesters and have been without pets for a short time…..but, they were ready to open up their home to more furry friends and I personally think that they hit the jackpot!  You could never find two sweeter kitties than these two!  Reports from the new home are all good!  Gabby and Mickey are snuggled in the laundry room (safe room), but Gabby has actually come out a couple of times to explore a little before heading back to his safe room!  Mickey is TOTALLY depending on Gabby for comfort and direction!  He hangs back and waits to see what Gabby is going to do!

    Both kitties are playing, talking and even hugging each other when sleeping!  It is so sweet I can hardly stand it!  Poor Gabby was returned to the lodge after being adopted as a kitten.  I am so glad that after waiting another (almost) TWO years, he has an opportunity to be loved and move on with his life!  I think all will work extremely well with this match and Melinda & Royce seem totally committed to the kitties’ long-term happiness!!!  I did actually cry on the way home and still do when I think of Gabby not being at the lodge…..gosh darn it is hard to say goodbye!!!  I really loved him and we ALL went through so much with him!!!  HOORAY!!!

    GABBY is an AMAZING cat and truly loved by FURR volunteers!  Watch his Video!

    He is very special to us and was rescued from a terrible situation…TWICE! GABBY was a tiny kitten about to be euthanized when rescued from a high kill animal control facility by FURR.  He was adopted and lived in a big house with children and other animals.  But a sad reality happened, as it does on rare occasions – he was returned to FURR when he grew up and wasn’t a cute little kitten any more.  He is very homesick and wants a life outside of FURR.

    GABBY has had a rough young life.  He actually went through surgery for a broken jaw and never complained once – he just purred through the entire surgery and complete recovery!  He is so very sweet, we know you will fall in love with him.

    GABBY is one of the most beautiful and gentle cats we have ever had and all the FURR volunteers adore him!  GABBY is unique with his soft white coat and rust colored markings!  This gentle, loving soul gets along well with other cats, people and children!  We’re not sure, but think he would like dogs too!  He is absolutely amazing and would be a wonderful addition to any home.  He just loves to be petted, held, brushed or ANYTHING where he is getting attention! All he needs is LOVE!!!

    Gabby is a very young adult and really needs a family to love.   You will DEFINITELY fall in love with him when you meet him and all the FURR volunteers will surely cry when he leaves our rescue!  This is one special kitty in many, many ways!!! Please consider giving this wonderful, sweet boy the special forever home he deserves, he will reward you with lots of love, fun and joy in return. You won’t be sorry – guaranteed!

    Like all FURR kitties, this kitty is fully vetted with vaccinations and spaying/neutering. The Adoption fee also includes Microchipping to an approved home only!

  • 2015 – Gabby & Butterscratch – Living the Good Life Together

    These kitties will finally get a “real” home to live in!   A wonderful couple with two young girls are taking our two favorite boys home!  We try to love them and give them everything they could possibly need, but being able to sleep with someone at night, sit on the couch and watch TV, snuggling with sweet little girls is what these cats really need.

    Sometimes goodbye is so painful, but letting go is in the best interest of the kitties……..no matter how tough it is. This one is the hardest

    one for me to type (between tears!)  You all know the LONG and PAINFUL history on these cats, so I will not go into all of that again, but to say the least, we ALL have worked hard to heal them, love them, tame them and get them ready for this important moment!

    We will forever miss these two young boy cats and they will FURREVER be ingrained into our hearts.

    September 4, 2023 Some wonderful news happened that I want to share with all of you! Patti (FURR VOLUNTEER & adopter of GABBY!) fell in love with BARE just as I did months ago and has now adopted him!

    Bare’s Rescue & Rehab Story This amazing cat came from a beautiful Castle Hayne estate home.  A lovely lady, named Mrs. Barefoot, called me quite upset.  She was elderly and living alone in a large estate home with beautiful grounds.  Her husband had passed & her children were grown & gone, and Mrs. Barefoot could no longer maintain her property.  She knew she had to sell, but she had a HUGE problem that saddened her to her core.  You see, Mrs. Barefoot loved cats & had been feeding some feral cats on her property for years.  She had done the right thing by trapping & fixing all the cats, releasing them after recovery & letting them live on her estate.  The cats were ALL black (probably related) and relied on Mrs. Barefoot for food, water, shelter & love…..but yet they remained feral.

    When I received the phone call from Mrs. Barefoot she was quite distraught.  I agreed to help her re-trap all the cats, update them on all needed vet care (shots, etc.) and, after what seemed to be an impossible task, I was able to find a beautiful sanctuary for them to live.  It was absolutely & positively the LAST cats that the sanctuary would take in.  They were so kind to take them for me, but no more cats would be allowed to come in because they were way beyond FULL!

    Mrs. Barefoot was so happy her beloved cats were safe and all the cats adjusted well to their new life.

    But, after a few weeks, I got a call.  ONE more black cat showed up and looked worse for wear.  He was a huge male with many battle scars.  I was able to trap him and get him immediately to the vet.

    I named him “BARE” after Mrs. Barefoot, but seriously thought about naming him Al after AL Pacino’s movie “Scar Face”! BARE was beaten up to a pulp and I decided to keep him at FURR on medications for a while to get him healthy before deciding where he could go.

    BARE was VERY FERAL, hissing at us, ears flat back and scared to death we were going to hurt him. Most of the volunteers steered clear of him and I, personally, got swatted several times while medicating him.

    Low and behold, as many times before with feral cats, BARE took a good turn.  His ears came up, he just buried his head when I came to pet him and stopped swatting at me.  Soon, he actually looked forward to seeing me coming and and would blink his eyes.

    The rest is magical.  He fattened up, got a beautiful shiny coat (despite the battle scars), became very loving with all of us and the other FURR kitties. Over time, Patti fell in live with him, just as I did, and she took him home on trial.  I can’t tell you how many tears I shed when he left, but I knew it was an amazing home for him, plus I was dealing with a couple of very old cats of my own.

    So, it is now official and Patti wants to Adopt BARE for life! Congrats Patti!  Not sure who is more lucky, you or him!

    MICKEY, MOUSE and MINNIE are all sweet beyond words giving head butts and making biscuits for anyone who comes near! MICKEY & Mouse are short haired black & white kitties with really sweet faces!

    This little boy was found dumped downtown Charlotte near the Panther Stadium long with his brother Mouse and sister Minnie. A Good Samaritan found them and called FURR. We now have them at our rescue and they are all just precious! They were born around the beginning of July 2016 and all are fully vetted with all shots, blood testing, spay/neuter & microchip! They are a pleasure to have at our rescue and all the volunteers love them, but they would love a “real” home – separately or together!

    You should come to meet these sweet kitties & you will fall in love with them too! FURR adopts to approved homes only in the Charlotte and surrounding area! His adoption fee also includes Microchipping to an approved home only!

    Whew! We have had many wonderful Adoptions in the past 2-3 months or so (photos and stories coming soon!):

    • FEBREEZE & BABY BOUNCE – I delivered Mama FABREEZE and her look-a-like baby BOUNCE to their wonderful new home!
    • DOWNEY, SNUGGLES, WOOLIE – Adopted all three together! As you probably have figured by now, the wonderful Catholic Deacon and his wife (Dave & Sue) that adopted DOWNEY & SNUGGLES also took WOOLIE!
    • ALANA & MAMA MIA – Well, the story and players have changed a little bit, but the reality is the same……..two totally deserving and old residents at FURR have finally gotten mama their dream come true! Read Mama Mia’s Miracle Wall story!
    • MAMA EXXON – Paula came to FURR, along with her friend & our volunteer Kathleen, and Paula was wanting a friend for Meow Meow!  She was determined to get a cat that “needed” a home and one that was a young adult.  Paula picked our dear sweet Mama Exxon!!!  I was thrilled but cried my eyes out…..this poor sweet kitty has been through so much in her lifetime! Read her Miracle Wall Story!
    • VILLA – Has gone to an amazing home with her two new loving parents!!!  She will have an amazingly HUGE house to run around in and she will be spoiled rotten!
    • SUN CITY MAMA KITTY, PUTT PUTT AND MINEY – A great family that had lost their older kitty recently decided it was time to get a couple of new family members.  The family saw us at PetSmart, but literally couldn’t decide between the cats!  They seemed to love them all…Putt Putt and Miney both approached the kids lovingly and playfully.  Then, the Dad went into the adult rooms and really liked Sun City Mama Kitty!  After a family discussion, they decided to take all three!
    • SASSY – A few months a girl called Terry saying she saw Sassy on Petfinder and wanted her.  She had lost her white kitty to Cardiomyopathy a few months earlier. Sassy reminded her of him. Sassy did a few tricks and was on her best behavior. Long story short I delivered Sassy to her new home the day before Thanksgiving.
    • SHINEY & PEWTER – Shiney and Pewter went to their new home and I still can’t believe that these two Wilmington EXXON cats were trapped, rescued and NOW live in a penthouse apartment at SOUTHPARK!
    • VILLA – Has gone to an amazing home with her two new loving parents!!!  She will have an amazingly HUGE house to run around in and she will be spoiled ROTTEN!!!
    • SASSY – A few months a girl called Terry saying she saw Sassy on Petfinder and wanted her. She had lost her white kitty a few months early and Sassy reminded her of him. She met Sassy and fell in love.  Sassy did a few trick and was on her best behavior. Long story short I delivered Sassy to her new home the day before Thanksgiving. She was shy when I left her but she is coming out now. She has even done some tricks for Ashley and her husband.
    • DILLIE – Adorable little angel was found by an elderly lady in the middle of the highway! She said when she saw this baby in the street and when she opened her door, the kitten came running up to her!
    • ROBIN & SONNY – A family had been evicted due to their house being CONDEMNED! All of the “OUTDOOR” cats would have no where to go. My friend trapped the mama kitty and her 3 teeny babies. She has kept the mom & 3 babies for 2 months in a foster home. So, foster mom fell in love with MAMA and one of the babies!  The two kittens I got are down right GORGEOUS! SONNY is a long haired spotted tabby!!!! VERY unique and very soft & GORGEOUS! His brother, ROBIN, is a little bigger than SONNY and he is a long haired black & white kitty with gray in his fur.
    • ANKLET & PANDORA – Pandora and her younger sister Anklet were rescued from a horrible situation living behind a gas station. Both are torties, very similar in color and markings, with Pandora having a light stripe between her eyes which enables you to easily tell them apart. They are affectionate and exceptionally friendly – always there to greet you at the door and ready to play.
    • BLUE JEAN & BLACK JACK – BLUE JEAN is a BEAUTIFUL Russian Blue color with WHITE, this little boy is sooooo quiet and reserved! Unlike his brother BLACK JACK, BLUE JEAN is very calm and just loves to be held & loved on! BLACK JACK is a little more adventurous & spunky, but as different as the two brothers are, they are attached at the hip!

    • MARVINA – As you may know already, Marvina got adopted last week.  Thank you Kathleen for bringing your friends to FURR! This family has 2 young boys, mom and dad.  They live in the Steele Creek area and just lost a very very very old kitty! Marvina is already with the family and doing absolutely great!  She is getting tons of love and she was purring from the get go!
    • CHESSIE – Thank you so much Christine Schultz for bringing your next door neighbors to FURR! They were thrilled to adopt Chessie and what a perfect home with 2 teenage twins, mom & dad! Chessie settled in quickly when she left and I am so happy for her!
    • COPPER – Scrappy’s Mom called and said they had been thinking about getting  Copper to keep Scrappy company!  How wonderful is that! This fabulous family has already been checked out and approved when they got Scrappy, so it was a no brainer to let them have Copper!!! They took Copper home and all is going great!!!
